Nine-year-old Dora miraculously survived being hit by a train with only a few cuts and bruises, thanks to the quick actions of Vets for Pets Hereford and a heroic Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru train driver.
Labradoodle Dora escaped from her garden and had wandered on to a live railway line, where she was hit by a moving train. After spotting her on the tracks, train driver Charlie stopped his train, coaxed Dora onboard, and took her straight to Vets for Pets for emergency treatment. As a former British Army dog handler, Charlie was also able to give Dora initial first aid.
Owner Jane was shocked but relieved when she received the call about Dora. She said: “I noticed straight away that Dora had managed to escape the garden, which was so unusual for her. I was frantically walking around searching for her and calling vet practices, when I received the call from Vets for Pets. I’m so indebted to them and to Charlie for what they did. Dora is now home and doing well; we’ve spent a long time checking the garden to make sure there are no more escape routes for our little explorer.”
Vet Elliot, practice owner at Vets for Pets Hereford, said:" Situations like this can unfold in moments, whether it’s a gap in a fence or an open gate. It’s a good idea to regularly check your garden for potential escape routes. But most importantly, keep your pet's microchip details up to date; without it, reuniting Dora with her owner wouldn't have been possible.”
