Did you know it’s Veterinary Nurse Awareness month?

We would like to celebrate and say a massive thank you to all our wonderful veterinary nurses who work at our Waterlooville practice.
Day in day out they dedicate their time to care for your pets and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

One of the many roles of our veterinary nurses is to carry out nurse clinic appointments, you can contact the practice to book in any of the following services with one of our lovely veterinary nurses: nail clips, a**l glands expressions, tick removals, HPC 6 month health checks, weight clinics, dematts, post operative checks, blood pressure measurements and much more!!!

All aboard with Hearing Dogs Gus who went for a little adventure on the train. Gus is in the final stages of his hearing dog training and did a super job keeping his focus on his volunteer trainer when they were out and about. Plus, he was the paw-fect passenger for the trip.

It's so important that Gus is comfortable using public transport and visiting new places so that when he meets his future deaf partner, Gus can confidently accompany them wherever they might go.

Ask us in practice how you can donate to our charity of the year, Hearing Dogs

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is common in older cats and dogs. Where symptoms are shown, they are more likely due to an underlying disease process such as kidney disease, hyperthyroidism or heart disease.

For some patients, hypertension doesn’t have any symptoms until organ damage occurs. For this reason, we recommend annual routine blood pressure checks for cats and dogs over 7 years old.

If you found a lump on yourself, you’d go to the doctors, right? It’s the same for your cat.

If you find a lump or a bump on your cat, the sooner it is checked out by your vet, the better the chance of a cure. For advice on lumps and bumps and to book an appointment, give us a call today or visit our website for more information: https://bit.ly/4fNcXYr

Most pets will develop a lump on or under the skin at some point in their life, and some pets may develop several. It is impossible to know for certain what a lump is just by looking at it. Many different types of tumour can look and feel identical, especially those that sit under the skin.

However, making sure you feel your pet every few months will help you to understand what is normal, so you can spot any lumps and bumps early on. When checking your pet take things slow, and stop if they seem unduly concerned at any point.

Today is World Kidney Day. The kidneys filter waste products out of the blood into urine; when they are not working properly, these waste products start to build-up in the blood, making the animal feel unwell. You can see the common symptoms of renal disease below.

If you’re thinking of introducing a dog to your family, the two most common routes are adopting a rescue via a shelter or charity, or finding a puppy - ideally from a responsible and ethical breeder.

Bringing any pet into your home requires careful thought, commitment and dedication. Each route comes with pros and cons and a different set of responsibilities to consider. We’ve examined some of them here: bit.ly/4k34pj0

With lambing season upon us, we kindly ask all dog owners to be vigilant and responsible. Sheep worrying can cause severe stress, injury or even loss of lambs and ewes.
🚫 Please keep your dogs on a lead near livestock
🐾 Even the most well-behaved dogs can become excited or curious, leading to unintended harm
👁 Stay aware of your surroundings and keep dogs under close control.

Let’s work together to protect our farmers’ livelihoods and ensure a safe lambing season for all!

Occasionally, antibiotics are used to prevent infection, where an infection is considered very likely, or where infection could be catastrophic (such as after surgeries like a hip replacement).

However, bacteria can develop a resistance to antibiotics. As pet owners, you can help protect from antibiotic-resistant infections by giving all medications as prescribed, including finishing the course, and returning unused or leftover medication to the clinic for safe disposal.

You can find out more about this here in our blog:
