🌾 Why checking for grass seeds matters – more than you might think!
We recently treated a dog who was struggling to pass urine and had blood in his urine. After an ultrasound scan, we were shocked to discover the cause – a foxtail grass seed embedded in his bladder wall.
Grass seeds can work their way into the body through the skin, ears, eyes, paws… and in this unusual case, they had travelled internally. Left untreated, they can cause serious infections and damage.
This seed was successfully removed via surgery, and we’re pleased to say our patient has made a great recovery.
The images show the grass seed seen in the bladder during the ultrasound scan and the offending seed after it had been removed.
✅ Our advice: After walks, especially in long grass, check your pet carefully – between toes, around ears, under armpits, and anywhere seeds could hide. If you notice any swelling, licking, limping, or changes in urination, get them checked promptly.
