Congratulations to our very own trainee Instructor Amy and her lovely Kya for passing her Gold award this week! To pass Gold requires lots of dedication and hard work. The training starts with the foundations in the Pup/Foundation class and then we build on these through Bronze and Silver levels and on to the Gold where once all criteria are passed to a good standard, the Gold Award is a achieved!! Without the early foundations to build on, it would be very difficult to get this far. And we don’t stop there! We are happy to advance your training even further and also encourage you in to dog sports. At Hilsea branch my sport is Competitive Obedience and Amy has also got the bug now. I have also dabbled in Agility as has Amy and we are always happy to point you in the direction in which you want to go. So absolutely well done Amy and Kya; you do realise I’m going to even more picky now as you are in the ‘beyond’ part of our ‘Silver, Gold and Beyond’ class 🥳🐾🐾 😁

We’re busy prepping, planning, and packing all the fun for Bark at Staunton Country Park and we couldn’t be more excited! 🐾

From vendor stalls being mapped out to dog show ribbons being sorted, the team is working hard to make this year’s event the best one yet. Expect tail-wagging treats, pawsome prizes, and plenty of surprises for you and your four-legged friends

🐕HEATSTROKE IN DOGS🐕

We've been banging on about this for years! HEATSTROKE is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY! Fortunately, now more and more professionals are communicating the same message!

Whilst the need for rapid cooling with COLD water (1-15°C) has been recognised for decades in equestrian and human medicine, the dog world has lagged behind, and very poor information still circulates. e.g. "cool the paws", "cover with wet towels", "avoid cold water as it will cause shock"

THE KEY MESSAGES ARE............

💦"WET THEN VET"💦

💦"COLD WATER IMMERSION" (1-15°C)💦
(If you can't immerse, keep pouring ANYTHING COLD over the dog - hose, soft drinks, milk, etc)

💦Dogs die of heatstroke because they were NOT COOLED QUICKLY ENOUGH, NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE COOLED!

♨️RISK FACTORS FOR HEATSTROKE IN HOT WEATHER♨️

♨️Large dogs
♨️DOUBLE-COATED breeds
♨️Brachycephalic breeds
♨️June, July, August (UK)
♨️Exercise, being outdoors, left in cars

So proud of these three dogs and their humans for passing Bronze this course! Sharon and Steve with Remmy; Hayley with Enzo; and Megan with Nella! All have been dedicated to their training; putting in the practice and are now ready to take on Silver!! We look forward to continuing their dog training journeys with them! 🐾🐾🐾

We had 2 Bronze passes last week! Very well done to River the corgi and his humans, and Bonzo the lab and his dad! It’s so lovely to see the time and effort put in by people which obviously results in rosettes and certificates as well as better trained dogs. And it always makes us smile when they want to continue training in Silver class; usually being told that the dogs love coming each week especially 😁👍🐾

Wooohooo Helen and Margot!! We are super proud to announce that Margot is now a Gold dog after passing her Silver award last week. Helen is a fantastic trainer ( with our help of course 😁 )and she has lots of determination to work through the classes. Always asking questions and making sure that she’s doing things the right way; we love seeing Helen and her enthusiasm each week. As part of The Academy, our clients are welcomed to question our methods and ideas so that they fully understand why and how they can get the most from their dogs and give their dogs the best lives. Congratulations Helen; you and the lovely Margot are fantastic examples of what we at The Academy want to achieve. Now … go for Gold!! 😀 🐾🐾

Awwwww we are so proud of Bex and Sunny for passing Bronze! When Bex and her family first brought Sunny along, he was a bit of a handful; a very bouncy lively pup with a mind of his own. Needing him to be under manners as he is such a big strong boy and they have young children, they came along and with our help and guidance and Bex’s determination especially, Sunny is a different dog. They definitely deserve to have passed Bronze, and are now enjoying the new challenges in Silver class! Keep up the good work Bex and family! Congratulations 😁🐾
