Today we visited the Beddgelert dog show. This show has been running for many many years and it was wonderful to see the attendance and enthusiasm from everyone there. A real community gathering. It was only fitting to enter two of our youngest in the team.
They did the open class in agility and under 8’s (That’s the human not the canine!!!) Although the two competitors didn’t see eye to eye altogether we did have a wonderful day.

Paddington Bear or Paddy in the field. Our newest addition to the team. Just eleven months old and already showing fantastic skills. Much like the bear he was named after he has mischief through and through. Related to the Queens cockers he has a phenomenal blood line and his great uncle was with us for several years. He will be a great asset this coming season.

It is never easy to say goodbye to a faithful friend. Last week we said goodnight to Sam. He was only with us for a few years but touched all our lives in different ways. An exemplary working dog who also sired many litters. A faithful companion who will be greatly missed. We are going to bury him in the field overlooking the house so he can keep an eye on us.

A rather interesting poem I read the other day.

Hallowed are those,
That can impart their agenda in prose.

Sheltered in their vocabulary
They can be the social media constabulary

I knew a fisherman all dressed in green
That felt that other hunters were despicable and mean.

The plight of a fish with a mouthful of steel
Was somehow more acceptable than a downed pheasant or teal.

We both know that any death is cruel
But to suggest there is a difference someone must be a fool.

To hunt for the plate or to protect the stock
In this mixed up time will only induce mock

A visit to the abattoir would benefit some
To witness the way their deed is done

When wrapped in plastic and in the supermarket all packaged
We soon forget where our meat was extracted

Those simple sausages with no reference to their origin
Belies the possibility of any suffering

But so many are willing to condemn the way of a few
To take for your table is nothing new

But I abstain
I hear you complain

No such thing will pass my lips
That was once skipping through a meadow of bright tulips.

A purely plant based life I will steal
Ignoring fish products and bone meal

And what of the sheep farmer high in the mountains
No arable land to sustain crops for the thousands

Tomorrow we shall make sausage rolls from the pheasant
I am certain that they will taste quite pleasant

The feathers will adorn a lamp shade by the morrow
The breast will be braised for a meal to follow

Now I am aware that we all have our own opinions
But let’s not force them on our potential minions.
