We have launched an appeal for information to find the owner of a thin and injured horse found in Risca.
The cob type horse was removed from land off Dan-y-Griag Road on Monday 16 March after being found in a poor condition.
RSPCA Inspector Sophie Daniels said: “This cob is extremely thin and has a nasty infected injury to the left hind.
“The mare was not microchipped and was reportedly on the land for several weeks with nobody attending. Strangely it was wearing a distinctive fleecy zebra print rug.
“She was taken into possession by police and is now at a private boarding facility and will receive the treatment he needs.
“We don’t know who she belongs to so we’re issuing an appeal to help with enquiries. We’d also like to thank those members of the public who have called this in and we hope this cob will be able to make a full recovery.”
Anyone with any first hand information can contact the RSPCA Inspectorate Appeal Line on 0300 123 8018 and can quote 1755945.

Sir Indiana Bones, affectionately known as Indy, is a black cat whose life took a surprising and heartwarming turn after being rescued from a shelter.
Instead of going to a typical home, Indy found himself living at the Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma, USA, a museum famous for its fascinating collection of skeletons from animals all around the world.
At first, Indy was simply meant to be a friendly office pet for the museum staff. But it didn’t take long for him to become much more than that.
With his calm personality and curious nature, Indy began exploring the museum halls, wandering between skeleton exhibits, curling up in cozy corners, and quietly observing visitors as they walked through the displays. Before long, he became the museum’s unofficial greeter, charming guests with his relaxed and confident presence.
Over time, Indy became a beloved part of the museum experience. Staff members adored him, visitors loved spotting him during their tours, and his daily adventures quickly made him something of an internet sensation.
From a shelter rescue to a museum mascot, Indy’s story proves that sometimes the most unexpected places can become the perfect home and that every rescue animal deserves a chance to shine.

A 5-year-old boy burst into tears of joy after unexpectedly reuniting with his beloved cat that had been missing for over a year and a half.
Ronnie Humber was visiting a local adoption center with his mom to pick up a new cat after their ginger cat Phoenix disappeared months earlier. The family had searched everywhere for him and eventually lost hope of ever seeing him again.
But while walking past the enclosures, Ronnie suddenly spotted a familiar face, Phoenix, sitting in the cage right next to the cat they were about to adopt. The little boy immediately started screaming with excitement and crying happy tears as he realized his best friend had been found.
Phoenix began purring the moment his family came close, as if he recognized them instantly. The cat had been brought to the rescue center as a stray, and because the address on his microchip was outdated, the staff couldn’t locate his family.
It was an incredible and emotional reunion the family never expected.
