It is becoming more and more clear that environmental enrichment is important for the health and wellbeing of our horses, through encouraging move
ment, providing mental stimulation and offering opportunities to engage in natural behaviours. In the wild, horses will roam through the landscape for many hours each day, seeking out and foraging on a wide variety of plants, including many species of wildflowers and herbs. Encouraging horses to engage in these foraging and browsing behaviours in addition to providing opportunities for exploration and play, is essential for their wellbeing. We have designed and created horse enrichment toys and wildflower and herb mixes that will provide excellent natural enrichment without the use of plastics and our seed mixes are good for wildlife too! Wildflower meadows provide essential habitat and food for many insects, including important pollinator species such as butterflies and bees which are in decline due to habitat loss, climate change and pesticide use. In the UK, 97% of our meadows have been lost since World War II and pollinators have been steadily declining since the 1980's. We have carefully selected wildflower plant seed mixes that can be grown easily across a variety of soil types, that are safe and enriching for horses to browse on, are native to the UK and are beneficial for pollinators.
