Sฬถoฬถcฬถiฬถaฬถlฬถiฬถsฬถiฬถnฬถgฬถ your dog ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
The word โ€˜socialisingโ€™ is not wrong but for so many the meaning isnโ€™t understood from a dogs development point of view. For us, โ€˜socialisingโ€™ is VERY different, which is why I prefer the use of โ€˜exposure.โ€™
What socialisation should not be:
๐ŸŒต letting your puppy off lead to run up to every other dog so they can experience playing
๐ŸŒตonly letting your puppy meet other dogs when on a short lead
๐ŸŒต letting older dogs โ€˜teachโ€™ the younger ones a โ€˜lessonโ€™
๐ŸŒต letting all strangers, your family members, including children, meet, greet + play with your puppy unsupervised/unplanned
๐ŸŒต letting your puppy have free reign of the home without any prior communication of whatโ€™s right and wrong
๐ŸŒต free exercise at dog parks + dog day care
๐Ÿ™Œ EXPOSING your puppy to as many different situations as possible up until 16 weeks old is crucialโ€ฆโ€ฆWHY? ๐Ÿพ everything they are exposed to during this time will help reduce any unwanted behaviours in adulthood. Youโ€™re giving your dog its best chance to be calm and confident, no matter the scenario itโ€™s faced with.
What to do:
๐ŸŒ introduce your puppy to dogs that you know behave well. Making use of long lines so that they cannot run up to every dog they see + offering you much more control
๐ŸŒ practicing impulse control at every opportunity (doors, cars, with toys, food + for when you do let them off leash)
๐ŸŒ advocate for your dog by asking strangers, friends and family to not immediately give the puppy attention when they meet outdoors or indoors
๐ŸŒ showing your puppy what is right + wrong in your home by showing them + creating boundaries
๐ŸŒ get your puppy/dog used to sounds, different environments - practice taking to the vetโ€™s when theyโ€™ve no appointment, hold areas of their bodies (muzzle, paws, tail) to desensitise them
EASY TIP ๐Ÿ’ก : feeding your dog in a box full of recycling items > desensitises you startling noises/creates confidence
๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ your dog is neutral to their environments
๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ training is much easier, especially outdoors
๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ less chance of behaviours developing
๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ you have a calm + confident dog

Wearing a collar/leash isnโ€™t natural for a puppy, so like most things, must be taught by the owner.
First we teach the concept of leash pressure and then progress to training heel position.
Using a mixture of two quadrants ...
1: Positive Reinforcement โžช food reward 2: Negative Reinforcement โžช leash pressure .. Your dog will learn much quicker than with positive reinforcement only
๐Ÿ–ค Sessions should be short and lots of fun
๐Ÿ–ค Your dog must already know itโ€™s marker words (โ€˜yesโ€™/โ€˜okayโ€™/โ€˜freeโ€™)
๐Ÿ–ค Your dog must understand โ€˜luringโ€™
If you have a puppy that pulls and you are worried about training leash pressure because they might hurt themselves in the process - you can use the harness and collar together to teach the concept of leash pressure - gradually weaning off to the use of the collar only.

This little action man is learning quickly with the effort his owners are putting in - giving him a great start..... it really is a dogโ€™s life ๐Ÿถ ๐ŸคŽ

1) Identify and eliminate the bad habits inside the home that most likely created the behavioral issues.

2) Replace the bad habits with good habits.

3) Structure, rules, and boundaries followed consistently.

4) Positive interaction with you through play and formal obedience.

The first 3 take no time out of your day to implement. You are doing something any way, just do the right things now. Youโ€™re always training whether you know it or not. The dog knows it.

Number 4 takes very little time. Couple of minutes a couple of times a day goes a long way.

There must be consequences for doing right and there must be consequences for doing wrong.

Reward good behavior whether you ask for it or not.

Correct unwanted behavior quickly. If you do not correct unwanted behavior you are rewarding it.

Continue to master and work on the basics.
Come, sit, down, place, out and leave it.
Practice on leash, off leash, with food, without food, with toys, without
Toys, with rewards, without rewards, with tools, without tools
Practice in the Intermittent phase as long as needed when using tools
Continue to work on adding duration of commands, continue to work on adding distance to commands, continue on adding distractions to training
Practice everywhere, strive to achieve advanced obedience which is simply mastery of the basics under all conditions

๐š‚๐š๐š›๐šž๐šŒ๐š๐šž๐š›๐šŽ๐š ๐š†๐šŠ๐š•๐š”
Strive for daily structured walks
No smelling, peeing or pooping unless given release command, dog must be at your side or slightly behind, change speeds, normal speed, fast pace, very slow, at least until walk is mastered

๐™ต๐š›๐šŽ๐šŽ ๐š ๐šŠ๐š•๐š”
Long line & dog can move about freely, practice recall and all other basic commands on the free walk, implement play on the free walk, mix it up

๐š๐šŽ๐š•๐šŽ๐šŠ๐šœ๐šŽ ๐šŒ๐š˜๐š–๐š–๐šŠ๐š—๐š
If the dog does not know itโ€™s release command itโ€™s that much harder for the dog to know how to remain in command

๐™ฝ๐šŽ๐š  ๐™ฑ๐šŽ๐š‘๐šŠ๐šŸ๐š’๐š˜๐šž๐š›๐šœ
Teach your dog something new, even if you think itโ€™s useless. Utilize food luring and marking to do so. Take your time and youโ€™ll see you both grow as a team
