Reflexology is generally a safe therapy and I adjust treatments to suit your needs but there are some contra-indications. If you do have any of these conditions please let me know in advance and we can chat about options.

🦶Infectious and contagious foot conditions
🦶Blood cancers
🦶 Pregnancy -first 3 mths
🦶Malignant melanoma
🦶Acute infections and contagious diseases
🦶Recent surgery
🦶Thrombus/embolus

In pregnancy when I was taught it was recommended not to carry out a treatment in the first 3 months of an unstable pregnancy. I always err on the side of caution and say no treatment before 16 weeks.

Surgery- once your wound begins to heal reflexology may help with recovery, I have seen this with a regular client. His recovery improved more quickly once it was safe to carry out his regular reflexology again and also cheered him up which is always a bonus!

A study showing that foot reflexology led to a significant reduction in menopausal symptoms and fatigue amongst women. More work is required in this area but if you'd like to know more please message me for further information.

I always tell anyone who is sceptical about the benefits of reflexology (they usually haven't tried it!) that at the very least you do absolutely nothing for an hour and I haven't worked with anyone who hasn't relaxed in my 20 years of practise. How many of us ever spend an hour doing nothing and completely relaxing? The benefits of this alone are so good for your mind and body.

I always carry out a hormonal balance with all of my reflexology treatments and will tailor the whole treatment to your needs 💞

Following on from my recent post about foot care, let's have some fun facts about your feet! 🦶

Each foot has 26 bones made up of tarsals, metatarsals and phalanges. Anyone else thinking of Phoebe in Friends with the phalanges?! 😅 There are also more bones in your ankle joint, where I also work and a little up your lower leg during a treatment.

As well as muscles, tendons etc you also have around 200,000 nerve endings in your feet! Anyone have tickly feet? This may be your answer!

Photos are from my course notes, not pinched from the internet this time 😉

WhatsApp me if you'd like to book in, the first couple of weeks are filling fast!

My appointments are already filling up for the first couple of weeks, why not book in and try this amazing, relaxing therapy!

Our feet work so hard day in, day out and we often take them for granted. They take us everywhere we want to go, sometimes in ill fitting footwear (I'm sure most of us have done this!). So how should we look after our feet? Of course a regular reflexology treatment would be lovely, relaxing and improve circulation and so much more.

But what can you do at home to look after your feet? I love nothing more than a home pedicure, a good old soak, foot scrub, foot cream and freshly painted nails. But there are other more regular things you can do to look after those hard working feet of yours.

🦶❤️
Wash your feet daily, also between your toes and ensure you dry them thoroughly.
🦶❤️
Moisturise your feet regularly
🦶❤️
Keep toenails short and cut straight across to prevent ingrown toenails
🦶❤️
Air your feet daily, try to wear cotton or wool socks when it's cooler
🦶❤️
See a podiatrist should you have any issues such as corns, verricae etc
🦶❤️
Massage your feet with a lovely lotion or cream or even better ask someone else to do it for you!

2 weeks today and I'll be at Little Kerse and joining Team Mhphysiotherapy!

I found this photo in my old reflexology notes! I qualified in February 2007.

If you are looking for a therapist please always check what training they have, that it is relevant to your needs and that they are insured by an appropriate company.

I trained at The Academy of Reflexology and Massage Scotland (sadly no longer operating) and am fully insured to carry out all of my therapies.

What did my training involve? It lasted for 9 months, with both reflexology and anatomy/physiology tutors. As well as attending classes I had a number of exams to pass before becoming a qualified reflexologist.

My exams were as follows:

Anatomy and Physiology written

Reflexology written

Reflexology practical in-class assessment

60 hrs of case studies, treatments carried out and written up

Some were one-off treatments and others were a few on one person so a good mix to see how reflexology worked as one treatment and the differences over regular treatments.

I always have my science head on so loved learning this amazing therapy. It was a refresher course for Anatomy and Physiology as I'd studied this before which made it a little easier for me.

If you'd like to know more please feel free to message me and have an amazing weekend! 💞
