Did you know that Dr Jo and Dr Nikolai lived and worked in North America for 10 years? 🇲🇽🇺🇸🇨🇦 Dr Nikolai was born in Mexico, their two daughters were born in Seattle, and the family enjoyed memorable holidays in Canada.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicking off across Mexico, the USA, and Canada this June, we're celebrating our North American connections while supporting and celebrating the Humane Society's 47th annual June is Adopt-a-Cat Month® campaign. ⚽🐱❤️

June is also "kitten season," when rescue centres are caring for many cats and kittens searching for loving forever homes. If you're ready to welcome a feline teammate into your family, please consider adoption!

☀️🐱 Happy Caturday! Protect Your Sun-Worshipping Cats This Summer 🐱☀️

With the recent hot and sunny weather, many of our feline friends are enjoying long naps in the sunshine!

😻🌞 During a recent trip to St Ives, Dr Nikolai and Dr Nott met a beautiful sun-loving cat called Flaky 🐾 relaxing near the church garden. Being white, Flaky is one of the cats most at risk from sun damage.

Did you know cats can suffer from sunburn, solar dermatitis, and even skin cancer? ⚠️
White, thin-haired, or hairless cats are especially vulnerable, particularly on their ears and nose.

🧴 Only use pet-safe sunscreen recommended for cats. 🏡 Consider keeping vulnerable cats indoors during peak sunshine hours. 👀 Watch for redness, scabs, or wounds that don't heal.

Wishing all our wonderful cats, clients & community a very Happy Bank Holiday Weekend! ☀️😺💛

Just a friendly reminder that The Plymouth Cat Clinic will be CLOSED on Bank Holiday Monday.

Last weekend, our very own Dr Nikolai swapped the consulting room for running shoes 👟🏃‍♂️ and proudly represented The Plymouth Cat Clinic at the Plymouth Running Festival! 🎉 In the 10K run he managed an amazing finish in the Top 100 (91) overall and Top 10 (7) in his age category! 🏅👏

Cheered on by Dr Jo & family, friends & lovely clients, he is definitely looking forward to a much more relaxing weekend this time round 😹☕🛋️

Sweet Skittles recently visited us for advanced dental treatment after suffering from a painful condition called a Caudal Traumatic Malocclusion. This occurs when sharp upper cheek teeth traumatically contact the lower gums, leading to discomfort, ulcers and periodontal disease. 😿

Our Vet & Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Dentistry, Dr Nikolai, alongside RVN Sam, carefully performed an odontoplasty procedure to reduce the sharpness and height of the affected teeth, helping prevent further trauma and improve comfort. ✨🦷
Cats are experts at hiding dental pain, so bad breath, drooling, messy eating or changes in behaviour should never be ignored! 🐾 Early dental care can make a huge difference to your cat’s comfort and wellbeing.

World Hypertension Day 🩺🐱

Did you know high blood pressure (hypertension) can be a “silent stalker” in senior cats? Many cats show no obvious signs, and sudden blindness may sadly be the first thing noticed.

Keep an eye out for subtle changes such as:
🐾 Sleeping more
🐾 Becoming withdrawn
🐾 Bumping into things
🐾 Eye changes or bleeding
🐾 Weight loss or hyperactivity

Here is one of our lovely patient having their blood pressure checked by our nurse Sam. 📸💙 Regular monitoring is especially important for cats over 8 years of age.

This week we were delighted to welcome back the adorable kitten duo Bella & Baxter for their vaccine boosters with our wonderful Nurse Kathryn 💉🐾

These two certainly kept our Team entertained with their impressive athletic abilities and legendary kitten Zoomies around the consulting room! 🏃‍♀️💨🐈 From climbing to sprinting, Bella & Baxter showed us exactly why kittens are tiny bundles of chaos and cuteness 😹💛

As Plymouth gets ready for this weekend’s Plymouth Running Festival, we’d like to wish everyone taking part the very best of luck! 🏅👏
