Could This Be the New Addition to Town & Country Dogs? 🐾
Some of you may know I have a very soft spot for a hound… and it looks like another one may be about to steal a little space in our hearts.
On Sunday (Cypriot airport safety permitting), a very special boy called Lucas is due to arrive in the UK.
I wasn't actually planning on getting another dog yet after Taz's passing BUT Lucas is in desperate need of a home with experience of shy/nervous dogs, so here we are 🤷.
Lucas has travelled a long road already. I don’t know all the details of his past, but I do know that he’s good with other dogs, he’s been cat tested and passed, and despite everything, he has the gentlest soul.
He is, however, still very timid around people and doesn’t quite understand yet that hands can be kind and people can be trusted and that’s where fostering comes in.
For now, Lucas will only be joining us as a foster. There are no big declarations, no impulsive decisions (thats just not me) but just a safe space, patience, routine, and the chance to learn that the world isn’t such a scary place.
Rescue is never about “fixing” a dog.
It’s about giving them the time and security to unfold at their own pace. Assess, adapt and overcome. It's not about expecting a perfect dog, it's about letting them become the best dog they can be in their own time.
So… could this be the new addition to Town & Country Dogs?.....We’ll see 🤷.
For now, let’s just get him here safely.
I’ll keep you all updated on his journey — the wins, the wobbles, and hopefully 🤞🤞some wags too .
Please keep everything crossed for a smooth arrival for little Lucas, his luck is about to change ❤️.
A little note about fostering dogs from abroad...
I know some people wonder why foster from over seas when we have our own dogs here needing homes too. I used to think the same!
The truth is even our dogs in kennels here are generally warm, fed, monitored and legally protected.
In some other countries the conditions are far harsher.... Limited welfare laws, limited access to veterinary care and sadly, lots of abuse, many just don't view dogs as we do here.
It isn't about choosing one over another- our rescues here do a fantastic job-its simply about helping where the need can be a little more desperate 🐾.
