What do we do in training classes? 🐶
One exercise we do in classes is teaching our dogs to be calm and settle around the distraction of other dogs.
Why is this important?
Often when dogs see each other they may get very excited which leads to jumping and pulling on the lead etc. If we practice doing calm behaviours and teaching our dogs to co exist around each other this is great socialisation for them and it makes management for you easier when training.
✨️Important note✨️
When training our dogs we always start with small baby steps for example in this video it shows them all settled together in the one area, however this takes time, patience and practice before we get to this stage.
Initially all dogs are seperate when we practice settle doing small steps of teaching a down and then working on duration of lying down and adding human distraction such as jumping on spot whilst rewarding our dog being relaxed to make the behaviour solid.
When they understand behaviour fully it is then when we add dogs and it's important not to worry if your dog initially does get excited as its only natural but because we have practiced this behaviour of being calm before they quickly understood what we were asking them to do and all did amazing.
Training often takes time and consistency and being patient with yourself and your dog ❤️
