One moment, they were there—tail gently wagging, eyes bright with that familiar, unwavering love—and then they weren’t.
There was no time to prepare. No slow decline, no whispered goodbyes. Just a stillness that arrived like a wave, and left the world quieter than it had ever been.
They weren’t just a dog. They were your heartbeat at your feet. The quiet comfort in your daily routine. The soft weight beside you when the world felt heavy. They knew the tone of your voice, the rhythm of your steps, the shape of your soul.
And now, without warning, they are gone—and nothing feels quite real. You may still hear the echo of their paws, or glance up expecting to see them curled in their favourite spot. You may reach instinctively for the lead, or pause at the sound of the wind, imagining for a second it was them. That’s what love does—it builds a home in the everyday, and when it’s suddenly missing, it leaves you aching.
That staggering grief—the kind that arrives without mercy, stealing away something we never imagined life without. It’s not just sorrow. It’s love with nowhere to go.
But in all the stillness, there is this truth: love like theirs doesn’t simply vanish. It lingers in the air, in the corners of your home, in the quiet moments you shared. It stays in the softness of a blanket, the garden path they knew by heart, the scent that catches you off-guard.
They may be gone from this world, but their love is stitched into the fabric of yours.
Always there. Always yours.
