Understanding your dogs breed needs, please contact Ruth if you need any help ๐ โค๏ธ ๐พ
This past 2 weeks Iโve worked with 12 dogs who have bitten members of their family๐
10 of them are working line gun dogs (varying breeds but all high energy but none used for โworkingโ
6 of these dogs have pain issues and all of them have the nicest kindest owners who are doing all they can to help these dogs as 95% of the time they are loving affectionate dogs.
With the right support and understanding I strongly believe these dogs wonโt bite again.
To prevent dog bites and resource guarding, defensive behaviour in dogs we absolutely need to understand their body language and respect it.
Cockapoos and spaniels are being taken to rescue charities or to vets for euthanasia in higher numbers than ever before largely due to their popularity but often due to miscommunication with owners due to a lack of understanding of the breeds needs or body language.
Working line gundogs can make the most fantastic pets but only if we are allowing them to use their natural hunting instincts to forage, sniff, retrieve, track.. they need more than long walks and ball games, they need understanding,
I absolutely love gundogs and working with them is awesome, but think carefully before choosing any breed of dog.. working line is EXTRA and if they donโt have work to do, problems start to appear.
