Flo’s Fell Pony Adventures

Just got back from the British Carriage Driving Junior Championships and what a great weekend we had. Hades Hill Perry did amazing and we came 4th in the marathon and 6th overall.

Anyone who knows me or has been on a Fell Pony Adventure with me and my Dad will know we have been working towards competing at the European Championships For Youth Driving in Flyinge, Sweden 2024. In order to get there I need your help!

We're at the British Carriagedriving Junior Championships with Today has been all about training and we've had some great tuition from pony pairs carriage driving world champion .w_carriage_driving. Looking forward to the cones and dressage phases of the competition tomorrow 🐴🐴🐴🐴

Only 18 weeks ago we were at a training day near Penrith with Libby Priest who has driven for team GB. Libby suggested that Flo should be going for the Junior Championships so we made it our mission to qualify and get there. Believe me - just getting here has been an achievement for us.

Yesterday was the marathon and we had a great day. Flo came 3rd and would have got 2nd overall but we missed one of the control flags that you have to go through so we got eliminated. Unfortunately someone had parked a car right next to the control flag by obstacle 2 and a little confused, we missed it.

Loads of people who were at the obstacle appealed on our behalf before we'd even got to the finish (including the course technical director) but the course judge said no - rules are rules - but we have so many positives to take away from the day that the disqualification is almost irrelevant.

A huge thank you to the Midlands Carriagedriving Club who put on the event (especially George, Penny and Joan who made us most welcome on the first evening),

Also huge thanks to the amazing team of people supporting the British Young Drivers and for organising the training day Mary-Jane, Jo, Georgina, Frank and Anna.

A big shout out to all the stewards and timekeepers who make it all possible - sone truly amazing people all of whom have a story to tell.

This really is about as much fun as you can have with a horse or a pony. There are 10 year olds and 80 somethings all enjoying a truly team sport that all the family can be a fundamental part of.

Thanks also to Libby Robinson for the loan of the carriage and harness.

Its totally amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it

We came away with our heads held very high.

Congratulations to all our drivers, you should be proud of yourselves for your performances this weekend! A special shout out to Maisie McCarthy who was recognised by trainer Frank Campbell as the most improved driver across Summer Clinic and the Championships 💪🏼
