I just wanted to share a personal success story.

This is my pony, Sam - some of you have seen her before.

A bit of background: I was contacted by a close colleague and friend about this lovely mare. Due to a change in circumstances, her previous situation was no longer working for her, and they were struggling to manage her weight on a grass track. They asked whether I'd be willing to take her on.

I'm very fortunate to have a large yard with plenty of grass-free turnout options, so Sam came to stay with us and started on my weight management programme.
Within 5 months, she looked like a completely different pony. The most recent photos were taken at 7 months, and she is now sustainably managed on grass using tools such as the Laminitis App and a GreenGuard muzzle.

Most importantly, she can now enjoy life as a horse should – moving comfortably, socialising with her herd, and taking part in normal herd life.

Can it be done? Absolutely.

Does it require consistency and commitment from the owner? Absolutely.

For me, those few months of careful management have given Sam something invaluable: the ability to live a much more normal life without constantly being on the brink of a laminitic episode.
She moves better, she feels better, and she's a much happier pony for it

I can't believe the change in this mare. It wasn't that long ago that we had to sedate her just to get near her, otherwise she'd break out her kung fu moves!
Now, we can trim her companion in the next field and she feels comfortable enough to have a post trim lie down next to us 💜.
She really is a testiment to the time and effort her humans have put into her to gain her trust.
I love my job and the people and animals I work with.

Another excellent Areion Academy trained trimmer 💜

A big difference to the balance and functionality of this club foot over time. Look at asymmetry in the heel bulbs 👀)

This foot has straightened up nicely 🙌
This is what I mean when I talk about taking a “whole horse approach”. Consistent trimming, physio and appropriate exercise have helped this horse find better balance, not just within the foot itself, but throughout the entire body.
(I appreciate the different photo angles aren’t ideal, sorry! 🤦‍♀️)

What a beautiful foot 🙌

I tend to keep quiet and not post about other professional's work - it's my policy to keep shtum for a reason, but I'm going to make an exception seeing as this keeps rearing it's ugly head. First and foremost I am an advocate for the horse, my mantra is always "do no harm" regardless of the situation and there are many occasions where I'm balancing optimal biomechanics with comfort of the horse - in an ideal world these are one and the same. I do the best with the knowledge I have at the time and I am continually learning and developing myself. My stance on the matter is to listen to, encourage and include people trying to do better, however there is a line that needs drawing when 'professionals' are blatantly causing harm to horses, shutting themselves off to learning from others and attack anyone who challenges them. We learn by people challenging us, asking questions and asking plenty of questions ourselves. One horse is a horse too many, live and let live unless they're doing harm ✌️ 💜
