Yesterday I met a little dog to clip their nails at home.

The owner advised me to bring along a muzzle as that's what they do at the vets when taken 'out the back'.

With muzzle, blanket and nail clippers in hand and a quick visit to the pet shop on the way I went to clip the little dogs nails.

She was adorable. The owner restrained her, the dog licked the liver paste, we made friends 🧡

Four paws of nails clipped, no muzzle required! No stress! Happy dog, happy owner!

We also had a discussion about weight loss (for the dog!)

If yoi require any preventative health advice or pet care please contact me. 07365 387508.

If your pet is unwell or you have health concerns about your pet, do contact your vet.

BAD BREATH IN DOGS 😷

Always contact your vet if you notice a change in your dog’s breath, especially if they seem to be in pain, have stopped eating or seem unwell. Bad breath isn’t normal, even in older dogs.

Halitosis (bad breath) in dogs can be caused by:
• Dental disease - This is the most common cause of halitosis in dogs. Tartar buildup, gingivitis, infections, and tooth root abscesses are all likely to make your dog’s breath very smelly.
• Kidney disease - When your dog’s kidneys aren’t working properly, toxins and waste products build up in their body. This causes a number of symptoms, including breath that smells like ammonia (similar to bleach).
• Diabetes - This causes chemicals called ‘ketones’ to build up in the body which leads to a variety of symptoms including sweet smelling breath (similar to pear drops or nail polish remover).
• Infection or something stuck in the mouth - An object stuck in the mouth, such as a bone or stick, can become really smelly, especially if it causes a wound and/or infection to develop.
• Oral lumps - These are abnormal tissue growths in the mouth, including the gums, tongue, or lips which can often become infected and smell.
• Diet - The food your dog eats is likely to affect their breath. For example, fish based diets can make your dog’s breath smell fishy. If you change your dog’s diet, you may notice their breath smells different.

Celebrating Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ✨

15/05/2026

We generally try to be optimistic, we try to have a call to action, to educate, empower, investigate, be inquisitive and see ways forward even through difficult, challenging and often controversial topics.

But sometimes, you see things that stop you in your tracks.

The suffering caused by humans becomes too much to understand or comprehend.

What can we even say about this?

This should be leading to prosecution. This is animal abuse. This is horrific to see and watch the videos.

We try to educate on moving away from extreme conformation, and then you see this.

This is suffering being celebrated.

Whoever bought these dogs in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Spain, Italy, UK and USA: shame on you.
