We had an amazing Scent Walks session today.
Diane and Cedric have been practising their exercises really well and we were able to move them into the next stage with confidence. Cedric is showing very clear signs that he both understands, and is enjoying the task at hand. It was a joy to watch.
Little Lily....the aged, deaf, half blind, wobbly and with dementia pooch showed us very clearly that she has dedication to odour and is still eager to please. We moved her on very slightly to progress her using a combination of hand touch, verbal cue and hand signal. She was fabulous.
We were joined today by Kim and her 3 year old lab. We taught Lily the marker system and integrated the scent walks odour into this learning. Lily is bright and sparky and will be picking this up in no time....as the picture shows!
Lots of fun today with three very different dogs and two dedicated handlers.

Another great workshop. Two different dogs taking to their new scentwork activity with enthusiasm. Stumpy is only 10 months old and has done a fair bit of scent work already. She learns new things with huge enthusiasm and her recognition of a new odour was fantastic.
Tilda has proven to us yet again what a fantastic nose she has and how easily she takes to new activities.
I can't wait to see how they both progress.

Sweet little Lilly is just starting off on her Scent Walks journey. She is very elderly, blind in one eye, deaf and is showing signs of dementia. We are hoping Scent Walks will give her nourishment and focus when she is out in Diane Collacott s paddock. We are taking things very slowly with her and allowing her to imprint the odour at her own pace. We will only be progressing her when she is ready.

Our very first Scent Walks workshop went so well! Diane Collacott with lovely Cedric.
Scent Walks is a new highly accessible scent work activity for dogs. It's quite different from any other scentwork for dogs. It's about allowing the dog to move, process and settle in the environment and engage with the odour in a totally natural and unpressurised way.
Cedric picked this up beautifully and they can't wait for the next session!
