OCF hosted Clara and Ali from University of Oxford's SDG Impact Lab last week as part of measuring the impact of OxFarm2Fork!

This is how many local growers sell food into different colleges. Clara and Ali were assessing biodiversity here on the farm and using a refractometer to measure the nutrient density of our produce and comparing it to what you might find on the shelf at the store.

Our growing style led to some of the highest measures possible, particularly for our broad beans and beets today. This indicates that our vegetables might have much higher nutrients than you may get from other vegetables.

If you are a student at the University and want your college to buy local, seasonal veg and support local organisations like the city farm, please talk to your domestic bursar!

It's pickled walnut season! We've now picked, pricked, and salted about 60kg or walnuts from our trees here at the farm. We'll be bringing them for the next three days, then drying and adding them to a pickling liquid to sit and cure for several we hope to have jars available for sale later this year around the holidays! As always, a big thanks to our volunteers for their work in picking and picking the walnuts over the last few days. It's a time sensitive task because if we wait to long, then the walnuts will start to develop shells and not be tasty when we go to eat them in a few months.

It's walnut season! The squirrels have blessed us with several great walnut trees here at the farm so we're picking them green and starting the pickling process. Some folks have enquired about buying these green walnuts to pickle them themselves. Please comment on this message if you'd like to buy some green walnuts to pickle yourself from our Saturday market and we'll see what we can do! Or join our Friday and Saturday volunteer sessions from 10 to 1 and take home some extras for yourself!

Lots of new produce and last of for the season tomorrow/Saturday from 10 to 1 at our weekly market. Fresh garlic scapes are making their ONLY appearance of the year. And we also are giving away freshly harvest Chinese cabbage for FREE. A donation is welcome of course, but more important that this cabbage is put to good use. It's starting to flower and we needed the bed space so all cleared out. Just ask at the counter and you can take as much as you like. Great for stir fry, kimchi, or other fermentation projects! Also tons of gorgeous peas, kale, and broad beans available, along with the last of our spinach for the summer.
