Equine flu is on our doorstep, so please use this as an opportunity to stay vigilant, and check your horses' vaccinations are up to date. Equine flu travels further airborne than you may think.

This educational piece by British Horse Society is definitely worth a read.
Equine flu spreads much further - and much more easily - than many horse owners realise.
Unlike strangles, which usually requires close horse-to-horse contact or shared equipment, equine flu can spread through the air over surprisingly long distances – up to 2km. This makes it far harder for yards to fully protect against, even with good biosecurity measures in place.
That’s why vaccination remains our best line of defence. While flu vaccines may not always prevent a horse from catching the virus, they are proven to significantly reduce the severity of symptoms, shorten recovery time, and reduce how much virus an infected horse sheds and spreads to others.
With horses travelling, competing and mixing regularly, keeping vaccinations up to date helps protect not only your own horse, but your yard and the wider equine community too.
