Ever wondered what’s actually happening during your dog’s laser therapy treatment? Let’s break it down… 🧠💡

We’re using photobiomodulation, a therapeutic application of light that penetrates deep into tissues to stimulate cellular repair and mitochondrial activity. This boosts ATP production, enhances circulation, and reduces pro-inflammatory markers. 🔥➡️❄️

It accelerates healing, reduces pain, and helps your dog move more comfortably. Whether we're targeting arthritic joints, soft tissue injuries, or post-surgical sites, each protocol is tailored for your dog’s specific condition, using precise wavelengths and dosages.

🎯 It’s non-invasive, pain-free, and scientifically evidenced and it’s playing a key role in your dog’s rehab journey.

We get it… summer is finally here ☀️and it’s tempting to head out for longer walks or add in extras. But suddenly ramping up your dog’s exercise can lead to sore joints, muscle strain, or flare-ups of old injuries — especially in older dogs or those with existing issues.

🐾👣 Keep walk durations consistent, even if the weather is lovely. Gradual increases are fine if you're working toward a goal and it’s appropriate for you dog— but big jumps can do more harm than good.

The other month someone asked Steph if the police car they had just seen outside the clinic was there to arrest her for ‘criminally bad parking’ 🚓… we can confirm this is not the case (so she says) 👀😅

What we can say for certain though is that the occupant of the car, RPD Gru, has an important message to share!

We’ve been supporting Gru in the clinic for over a year alongside the fantastic teams Nupsala, The Renew Clinic, and Loyalwill Canine Hydrotherapy Centre 🩺. Gru served 3 years in the Northamptonshire Police Dog Unit as a general purpose police dog before sadly being retired due to injury.

Hearing stories about how Gru helped detain countless criminals in the line of duty while protecting his handler and the general public puts into perspective how amazing our police dog section is 🦴. Although Gru has helped put many criminals behind bars over the years, he is the world's biggest softy 🧸 and can usually be found sitting on Steph’s lap for a pre-treatment cuddle 🐶

Hero paws - Life AFTER service and the NRFSA are two fantastic charities that work hard to support service dogs in their retirement 🐕‍🦺. A lot of people don’t know this, but when service dogs retire, all responsibility for their care falls on their handler or new owner — and it’s often very difficult or even impossible to find insurance to cover them.

Gru’s handler and some other members of Northamptonshire Police Service are setting out to accomplish the Three Peaks Challenge ⛰️ in full kit, in under 24 hours. That’s roughly 23 miles, 70,000 steps, and 10,000 feet of elevation— in under a day! 😮🥾⏱️

This post is not only to let you know how much we all love RPD Gru, but also to raise awareness about what Hero Paws and NRFSA are doing 🫶🐾. We’re just about to make our donation to support the handler’s Three Peaks Challenge, but if anyone is interested in donating anything to their cause to help with the treatment of retired service animals in need, please check out the link below: 👇

We often get asked in clinic if dogs can get back pain like humans — the answer is yes, they can! 🐾

We support lots of dogs with IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) 🦴 which is a condition that can affect a dog's back and mobility in a number of ways. Like humans, symptoms and severity of spinal injury can vary, which is why dogs suffering with IVDD need to have tailored expert care 🐶

Those of you who have dogs with spinal conditions that come into the clinic know that we are keen to get you set up with your home ‘toolkit’ 🧰 to help you support them at home! Those of you who come into the clinic also know that we have an ‘ever growing’ selection of equipment and therapies to help keep your dog supported (because Steph can’t stop filling the new clinic up! 😄)

If you, or someone you know, has a dog living with a spinal condition, help spread the word that physiotherapy can help! 🗣️🐕‍🦺✨

As some of you know, we can do lots to support dogs with a diagnosis of osteoarthritis 🐾

We don’t accept the sentence of ‘he’s just getting old’ and recognise that there is so much we can do to help dogs with osteoarthritis in order to maintain and regain some of their mobility 🐶

If you, or someone you know has a dog with a diagnosis of Osteoarthritis and you want to find out more about how Physiotherapy can help 🐾 Take a look at our website and get in touch to find out more about how we can help your dog at the Driscoll Therapy Canine in Bulwick 🐕

🐣🌷 Happy Easter from Driscoll Therapy! 🌷🐣

I'm not usually stuck for words, but I'm thrilled to announce that for the second year running, I've has been named a finalist for Animal Therapist of the Year! 🏆 It’s such an honour to be recognised again, and it wouldn’t be possible without your continued support and the incredible animals we get to work with every day 🐾 - Thank you, truly.

A huge thank-you to those that nominated me...it truly means a lot and I'm looking forward to keeping you all updated with the process! 🐕 ... a date in the diary for the awards evening where I can't wear scrubs!

We’re also feeling truly settled into our new clinic in Bulwick – thank you to everyone who’s visited and helped make it feel like home. It’s been a fantastic new chapter for myself and Diana 📚 I can't thank the team at the Bulwick Estate enough for letting Driscoll Therapy find it's new home here!

Diana is in the clinic today but after today, we'll both be off and returning to the clinic on the 22nd when I aim to be 99.9% chocolate! 🍫

Have wonderful Easter and remember to do you physio homework! 💪

🌟Crufts 2025 🌟

Wishing the biggest 'good luck' to everyone taking their steps on the green carpet over the next four days! 🍀

I feel proud to have been able to support you! - enjoy every second of it 🐾

I have to also give a mention to Baloo - A nominee for Kennel Club Hero Awards 2025 🏆

I was lucky to treat Baloo as part of the lecturing team at Anglia Ruskin University Writtle - Here's more about Baloo's story:

In October 2018, police dog Baloo was hit by a suspect’s car fleeing a crime scene, resulting in life-changing injuries and, devastatingly, amputation of one of her legs. Baloo retired with Mandy Chapman, a former police dog handler, and as she recovered, Mandy took her to see the team at Essex police force who were impacted by the incident. These visits soon became a regular occurrence as it became clear how beneficial they were for the mental health of the officers and staff alike. Baloo and Mandy were then introduced to the College of Policing team who provide well-being and mental health support, which led to the introduction of the ‘Oscar Kilo’ wellbeing and trauma support dogs service – and there are now over 250 of these dogs nationwide.

If anyone want to vote for the 2025 Kennel Club Hero Award and support Mandy and Baloo - https://crufts.org.uk/whats-on/the-kennel-club-hero-dog-award/

To all competing, good luck...to all attending, have fun and to all watching at home...enjoy (if you see me shopping...no you didn't!)

✨ Exciting News! ✨

Just when I thought February couldn’t get any more exciting… here goes! 🎉

As many of you know, I split my time between the clinic and teaching on the MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham. 📚

One of my long-term goals has been to build a team at Driscoll Therapy, bringing together 'multiple brains' to ensure even better continuity of care. Having more than one physiotherapist means we can share ideas, combine our expertise and experience🐕

Finding the right person for this role was incredibly important to me. I wanted someone who shares my values, my passion for helping dogs, and my commitment to improving their lives 🐶

I’m absolutely thrilled to introduce Diana! 🐾

Diana is a Master’s degree-qualified, RAMP-registered Veterinary Physiotherapist. In addition to her physiotherapy expertise, she’s also a canine hydrotherapist and a dedicated horse lover🐴 She has a keen interest in supporting older dogs, pre-habilitation, and is an absolute wizard with soft tissue treatment!

Since the end of January, Diana has been shadowing sessions to meet many of you and your amazing dogs in the clinic, and since the start of February, she’s been actively providing treatment💙🐾

Diana will now be based at the new Bulwick clinic on Thursdays, as well as offering equine physiotherapy support. I’m so excited to have her on board - thank you to everyone who has given Diana a warm welcome already 👋

To find out more about Diana, take a look at the fancy new website https://www.driscolltherapy.co.uk/copy-of-meet-the-team

Today marks two weeks of being in my new clinic at Bulwick Barn 🏡

It seemed right to mark the occasion with a ‘Betty appreciation post’ 🐾

Betty was the first dog I treated in Northamptonshire when I moved Driscoll Therapy to this end of the world two years ago 🐕 So it only seemed right to document Betty’s first visit to the new clinic 🐾

I can confirm that new clinic is ‘Betty approved’ and it took a few attempts (and bribery) to get Betty out the door after treatment 🤣

Thanks as always to the amazing team Oundle & Thrapston Veterinary Surgery for letting me provide Physiotherapy support for Betty 🐶

SOMETHING EXCITING IS COMING....🔑🏡

As most of you already know, in April this year I moved Driscoll Therapy to its new home. Unfortunately, the work space I purchased was not what what I expected. Behind the scenes, it has continued to cause stress and (soggy) problems (I'm a lover of water features...just not 20+ of them, and especially not when are on the inside of my clinic...🐾 )

I have loved my time at Lodge Farm (to be clear, this has absolutely nothing to do with my amazing Landlord but instead issues with the workspace I purchased from a third party) 🏡

It had very quickly gotten to the point that Driscoll Therapy needed to move to prevent further damage to my equipment (and stress levels) 🐕

So....please join me in my excitement in seeing a 'sneak peak' of Driscoll Therapy's new home (4 minutes down the road) at Bulwick Barns 🔑

It has been an incredibly stressful 48 hours (and few months!) but knowing that I can share this (dry) and amazing new clinic space with you all has pulled me through a weekend of putting Ikea furniture back together and drying drenched clinic floor/equipment with a hair dryer in my living room 😅

You will now be able to find me at Bulwick Barns - NN173DY but for more information on where to find me, please see the website: https://www.driscolltherapy.co.uk/contact

See you Monday 🐾

A less stressed, but relieved Steph!

P.S - messages/enquiries booking requests will be attended to tomorrow, thank you for your patience.
