We’re incredibly proud of our Google ratings (4.8/5 for Oswestry, and 5/5 for Shrewsbury!), and we’re always thankful for the feedback we receive.

We’ve had some lovely reviews lately, but here are a couple that stood out.

To all our new Whitchurch clients, we can’t wait to get to know you, and as with our other practices, we welcome your feedback!

As always, thank you to everyone who takes the time to leave us feedback - it never goes unnoticed 💕

“We thought it was normal… until we had it checked.”

We hear this a lot from owners of flat-faced breeds.

Snoring, snorting, struggling on walks - these things are often brushed off as “just part of their personality.” But for many dogs, it’s actually a sign they’re finding it hard to breathe.

Imagine trying to exercise, sleep, or even relax… all while breathing through a narrowed airway.

That’s the reality for many pets affected by BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome).

That’s why we offer FREE BOAS checks - to help spot problems early and give your pet the comfort they deserve.

Our friendly team will:

🐶 Take the time to assess your dog calmly
💬 Listen to your concerns
📋 Explain everything clearly - no pressure, just support

If you’ve ever wondered whether your dog’s breathing is “normal”, this is your sign to get it checked.

Found a lump on your pet? Don’t wait, get it checked.

It’s very common for pet owners to discover lumps and bumps on their dogs or cats, especially as they get older. While many are harmless (such as fatty lumps), others can be more serious - and it’s impossible to tell just by looking or feeling.

Early detection really does make a difference. The sooner we assess a lump, the more options we have for treatment - and in some cases, it could be life-saving.

What should you look out for?

🔍 New lumps or bumps
🔍 Existing lumps that are growing, changing shape, or becoming firmer
🔍 Lumps that seem sore, red, or ulcerated
🔍 Any change in your pet’s behaviour around the area

We can quickly and gently assess lumps, often with a simple needle test (fine needle aspiration) that gives us valuable information.

If you’re ever unsure, trust your instincts. We’d always rather check a lump and reassure you than miss something important.

Give us a call to book a check - it’s always better to be safe.

Many owners don’t realise that dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in practice. That’s why we always offer FREE dental checks for pets at The Market Town Vet!

Without regular care, plaque hardens into tartar, leading to:

> Painful gum inflammation
> Loose or infected teeth
> Abscesses
> Bacteria entering the bloodstream

Our four-legged friends rarely show obvious signs of pain - they often continue eating despite significant discomfort.

Watch out for:

🚨 Bad breath
🚨 Reluctance to chew toys (dogs)
🚨 Bleeding gums
🚨 Changes in behaviour

A quick dental check with one of our veterinary team can identify early problems and help you put a prevention plan in place.

Book your FREE dental check today and keep your pet smiling!

Did you know? Avocado can be highly toxic to birds and reptiles! 🥑

While avocado is a healthy snack for people, it contains a toxin called persin, which can cause serious illness - and in some cases can be fatal - to many pet birds and reptiles.

Signs of avocado poisoning may include:

⚠️ Breathing difficulties
⚠️ Lethargy or weakness
⚠️ Swelling or fluid build-up
⚠️ Loss of appetite
⚠️ Sudden collapse

Even small amounts can be dangerous, so it’s safest to avoid feeding avocado entirely - including the flesh, skin, leaves and pit.

If you think your pet may have eaten avocado, contact our team/your vet as soon as possible.

Please help us spread awareness and keep our exotic pets safe 💚

Is your flat-faced dog struggling to breathe?

Dogs should be able to breathe comfortably, exercise happily and sleep quietly.

If your dog regularly:

❗Snores when awake
❗Pants excessively
❗Tires quickly on walks
❗Sleeps sitting up
❗Struggles in warm weather

…it may be a sign of Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS).

Early assessment can help identify dogs that may benefit from lifestyle changes or treatment.

To help raise awareness and support brachycephalic breeds, we offer FREE BOAS checks at the practice.
