Hello everyone! It has been a long day but alas, our beauty snake makes it all the better.

Something I have always loved about snakes is just how magnetic and shiny (for lack of better words) they can be under that UVB. Their glow catches your eye and just, wow. (I barely passed English as you can tell)

Something that has always confused me is the ideology that just because its a snake, they dont need UVB.

To put it plainly, and this is a quote from numerous people that have come in: "It is just a corn snake" or "Its a royal, it doesnt need all that."

It baffles me. What do you mean a snake does not need "all that"? All that is the bare minimum requirement. Your snake should no longer be on heat mats, nor should they simply be in a dark vivarium clueless on the cycle of day and night.

At a minimum, your snake needs access to UVB and overhead heating. There is no other exception. Any reptile shop that does not offer this and blatantly refuses to have anything other than their "self regulating heat mat" should not be a shop you purchase your animals at. For the past year that I personally have been working at Reptilia, I can not even fathom the damage control ive had to do, making sure people are getting the bare minimum for their animals. Ive had Royals on Aspen, Beardies in a 3x1.5x1.5ft with a heatmat and woodchip and even heat rocks in with three leopard geckos, all co-habbing. Ive been extraordinarily lucky that 9/10 there are lovely people that come in, get told this and change it all immediately, and those people have my heart. I love you 🫡

It is never really the person's fault that they have the wrong equipment UNTIL they refuse to change it. I blame the shops half the time, and that includes old kits that we've sold. It tires me to hear this: "theyve been fine on it so far!" Your animal is not fine, it is surviving. They arent thriving and they arent happy. They are trying their best with the inadequate things they have got.

If you are one of these people who does have their snake on a heatmat and you are willing to change, good on you. I will personally give you a "black friday" deal on the equipment you need so that you can give your snake or other reptiles what they need. I haven't made this post to shame you. Simply to educate. If this post reaches one person who decides to change their husbandry and opts for new equipment then I have done my job and done it proudly.

Everyone! It is time!!

Give a warm welcome to Jalapeño! Our Basilisk Lizard! Jalapeño has absolutely captured our hearts at Reptilia Realm, becoming so beloved that they are now downstairs and apart of our family.

Jalapeño didnt have the easiest start, being used in children's entertainment until being rehomed to a lovely tattoo shop. The shop itself took good care of him but due to very unfortunate circumstances he has been rehomed again to our care.

Jalapeño can be lovely at times, and skittish at others. We ask that if you come to see Jalapeño you do not tap on the glass or follow him with your fingers as he can get startled by this. The not-so-little fella is still adjusting to all the new faces hes seeing, but has shown great promise in getting used to us.

Jalapeño does look to have a bit of wear and tear on him, please understand this was his condition prior to us taking him in and just due to his use in children's entertainment.

Besides all that, heres to hoping Jalapeño has a happy life at Reptilia :) (Disclaimer his enclosure is temporary while we find a larger one)

Our beautiful Eliza being coy this morning during a routine clean 🖤

This little one didn't have the best start in life, that's for sure. She came to us after a tenant found her under the floorboards of their new home. Despite the conditions she was living in, she is surprisingly healthy and quite beautiful. She will need someone with the patience to work with her after she was abandoned, but we can see that she will be a very lovely companion in time. If you are interested in providing Eliza a loving forever home, please do drop us a message or pop into the shop.

Hello and good evening to our adoring customers! There'll never be enough times that I can say we appreciate you. Whether you come in just for a box of bugs, or you're one of our regular rescuers! I just wanna put it out there that every purchase at our independent shop is appreciated and never unnoticed!

It is because of these purchases that we can go out of our way to rescue more unique exotics! Ranging from our resident Basilisk Jalapeño to who im about to show today!

Chances are, you've come in and tried to gander in their tank just to see.. nothing! You might even notice that the bowl has been recently filled with luxuries like dirt and sand (I dont want to talk about how many times that bowl is changed in a day.) The point is, this resident of ours is a shy one, and they LOVE to play "Where's Wally?"

This resident of ours is.... (Insert a drumroll here, make it long for dramatic effect and...)

Luci!

Luci is our resident Plated Lizard. They are certainly a shy one, so much so that this picture below was torturous to get. I had to sneak up to the vivarium like a burglar and honestly I felt like one taking that disgusting water bowl.

With jokes aside, Luci is looking for a calm home. One where the person adopting her understands that Luci is not wanting to be handled and that it is a rare event to observe her. We have noticed that Luci is willing to work with people, but I prefer being fully transparent in the fact that they might not ever tolerate handling. They are 6 to 7 years old and set in their grumpy ways! I also understand that this description will not entice everyone! But that is fine as we are looking for Luci's ideal home! Good afternoon everyone! We are open from 10am to 5:30pm today and we would love to see some friendly faces so pop on down!

Here we have our adoring Luci, nervous and unique in every right. We hear many people say that they look very similar to a skink and honestly we do see it.

Luci grows in confidence, albeit slowly, everyday. They are reaching new levels of trust with us and we respect the strives that Luci is making. They are truly captivating our hearts at Reptilia!

Piper, one of the gorgeous hognoses in our rescue, popped out to say hi this morning. This girl has an absolutely lovely temperament and is often out and about on her travels! She is currently looking for a home, so if you are at all interested, bob us a message and we can have a chat 🐍

Good afternoon everyone, we are open from 10am-5:30pm today!

Here is our lovely Western Hognose snake named Piper, staring longingly for her meal. Some say she reminds them of James Howell as she digs around the dirt looking for what I can only assume is lost riches (she won't find any, we already checked)

Also, we have the wonderful Do**us. As the name implies, he has an intellect similar to a locust and is appropriately named Do**us due to his first feed, where he said nay to the rat, and bit himself.

Both these stunning snakes are on the look out for their new forever home, and we are taking inquiries on them as well! Feel free to message!

Meet Leela 🖤💛

Leela is an absolutely gorgeous and very sweet leopard gecko who recently came to our rescue. Being previously rescued and nursed back to health by a lovely family, Leela does have a few scrapes, bumps and a dropped tail, but she doesn't let it hold her back. We are currently giving her warm soaks to help her with the stuck shed on her toes but she's getting on swimmingly besides that. She's great for handling and is pretty chill so would be perfect for a first time keeper or a family wanting to welcome a scaly friend into the fray.

Now for something a little different... 🕷️🕸️

We have this unsexed juvenile Catalina Big B*stard tarantula (Sericopelma sp. "Santa Catalina") available for adoption. A recently discovered species, this one is pretty chill all things considered. They are known for being hair flickers, so I'd keep that in mind if you're considering adding them to your collection, but despite some defiance when trying to rehouse this one, they have been overall lovely.

We are open to adopting them with the enclosure they are currently in, but this would be an extra cost on top of the adoption fee.

£10 adoption fee in, enclosure checks will be required if not taken home in set-up.
