Warmer weather can be lovely for sunbathing cats… but it can also bring trouble 🐱☀️

Cats can become dehydrated, overheated or sunburnt, especially if they’re older, long-haired, pale-coated, or have existing health conditions.

We're sharing simple ways to help your cat stay cool and comfortable, including:

💧 Encouraging them to drink more
🏡 Keeping indoor spaces cooler
🌤️ Protecting pale ears and noses from sunburn
🐾 Spotting signs your cat may be struggling in the heat

Hold on to your hats folks, for National Pet Month, our very own Chief Cuddle Officer has become Ambassador for Pet Appreciation and he’s here to celebrate everything that makes pets brilliant, even if he does say so himself 🐾😼

💚 The joy. The companionship. The purrs. The waggy tails. The muddy walks. The lappy naps. Pets make good times great.

So today, give your furry family member an extra cuddle, treat, walk, brush or sofa spot. It’s the least we can do, apparently 😆🛋️✨

And if you’d like real advice from the humans who know their stuff, please do contact the practice – the Ollie & Florrie Vets team are always happy to help 📞 01689477747

🚨 In an emergency, knowing a few first aid steps can make a real difference while you’re on your way to the vet. For example:

❗️Bleeding: Apply firm, steady pressure with a clean cloth and don’t keep lifting it to check.
🥵 Heatstroke: Move to a cool area, begin gradual cooling and call us immediately.
⏱️ Seizures: Keep your dog safe, reduce noise and time the episode.

If you’re unsure, trust your instincts and call us right away. We’d always rather help reassure you early.

Cats are masters at hiding illness 🐱💖Knowing what’s urgent – and when monitoring is reasonable – can help you act with confidence.

🚨 Always seek urgent care if your cat shows:

• Difficulty breathing (cats should never pant)
• Straining to urinate, especially male cats
• Collapse or extreme weakness
• Severe trauma
• Possible lily exposure (highly toxic)

Some mild symptoms – like one episode of vomiting in an otherwise bright cat – may be monitored, but if you’re ever unsure, it’s always best to call.

With cats especially, early advice makes a big difference.
