πΎWhat actually tires a dog out and it's probably not what you think πΎ
Most people assume a long run or a big walk is the best way to tire out a dog and yes, physical exercise absolutely matters.
But here's what I've learned...
Mental stimulation tires a dog out faster than physical exercise ever will.
A dog who has spent 20 minutes using their nose, problem solving, or learning something new will be more genuinely tired than a dog who ran for an hour.
What mental stimulation actually looks like:
π½ Sniff walks: letting them stop, sniff, and take their time. Their nose is processing thousands of pieces of information. That's exhausting in the best way.
π§ Training: even five minutes of basic cues uses enormous amounts of brain power
πΏ New terrain: different surfaces, smells, sounds and environments all make a dog's brain work harder
πΎ Pattern games: predictable, focused exercises that build concentration and calm
This is why on our group walks we mix it up, with different paces, different terrains, slow moments and active ones.
A genuinely tired dog isn't just physically worn out. They're mentally satisfied too and that's when you get the calm, settled, happy dog at home that every owner wants. π
