☀️🐶 As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that dogs can struggle in the heat much more quickly than we do. Even on what feels like a mild day, heatstroke can become a serious emergency.

At Gourley Veterinary Surgeons, we recommend:
🐾 Walking dogs early morning or later evening
🐾 Avoiding intense exercise in warm weather
🐾 Making sure fresh water and shade are always available
🐾 Never leaving dogs in cars, even for a few minutes
🐾 Watching for signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse

Flat-faced breeds, older pets, overweight dogs and puppies can be especially at risk. If you’re worried your pet may be overheating, contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe and keep those paws cool this summer 💙☀️
