I had a great day yesterday at the Leicestershire Gundog Society All Aged walked up working test with Sully.

I was really pleased with his performance and he came away with third place. The test was on field trial rules in a field of rough grass set-aside. I saw some very smart work from the other competitors dogs, so was delighted that he had held is own.

That will be our last test this year as the field trials are rapidly approaching. He has ‘knocked on the door’ this year with a few awards, but have just missed out on a win. He is still very young and I’m still confident in his ability and potential.

Last night saw our latest Puppy Foundation Course come to an end!

All the puppies have achieved so much and their owners have been fantastic. They’ve listened, taken everything on board and worked incredibly hard with their pups, we are very proud of them all!

Sadly, we were missing a couple of pups last night because the course overran due to the heatwave.

Our September courses are now fully booked, so the only spaces currently available are on our November course — the final Puppy Foundation Course of 2026!

Beginners Gundog Group.

I haven’t seen these guys train for a few months and I was so pleased to see how well they’re progressing with Matt!

They have all come through our puppy training and it’s lovely to see how far they’ve progressed.

Their hard work and enthusiasm is really paying off!

So proud of how well they’re all doing! We were missing a few this week after the course had to be extended because of the hot weather but it was lovely to be back training with them. 😊

Time for a swift one (or two) after a busy day as one of the judges for the Coventry Gundog Society all aged walked up test today.

There were some excellent dogs running and any of the top dogs could’ve come away with the win.

That’s given me a bit of match practice for some judging appointments this coming field trial season. With three Open and three Novice trials in the diary to judge I’m looking forward to seeing some of the country’s top retrievers and hopefully some stars of the future.

The video shows one of our lovely clients who has attended both our Puppy Foundation and Obedience with an Introduction to Gundog Work course a number of times. She will be having a 1-2-1 session with Matt shortly.

Her dog hasn’t always been the easiest, but through patience, perseverance and consistency, they’ve made fantastic progress and are now going to moving up to our next group! 🎉

We are really proud of them! 😊

Another good day out with Sully yesterday. I ran him in the Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club Open test on field trial rules.
This was his first go running at Open level - once again he was the youngest dog in the test.

He held his own all day came came away with a Certificate of Merit. He really is showing his consistency recently in the awards. More polishing to do in his training but he’s showing that he is worth the effort.

Where has the time gone?!

Happy 6th Birthday to our gorgeous girl Piper and Happy 2nd Birthday to her handsome son Sully.

They are both such lovely dogs to have. Sully is showing so much promise and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he and Matt achieve together over the next year. 💪
