Can't lie, seeing this recommended for horse feather, tail, mane is getting too frequent and driving me mad!! Would you use it on your own hair?!?
Why is platinum fairy liquid bad for horses hair
Platinum Fairy Liquid (a type of dish soap) isn't specifically formulated for use on horses, and using it on their manes, tails, or coats can be bad for their hair and skin for several reasons:
Strips Natural Oils: Dish soaps like Fairy Liquid are powerful degreasers. While this helps clean dishes, it also strips the natural oils from a horse’s hair and skin, which can lead to dryness, irritation, and brittle hair.
pH Imbalance: Horses have a different skin pH than humans. Dish soaps are not pH-balanced for equine skin and can disrupt the protective acid mantle, making the skin prone to dryness, flaking, or even infection.
Harsh Ingredients: Platinum versions of dish soaps may contain extra surfactants or cleaning agents designed to cut through grease on kitchenware—these can be too harsh for sensitive horse skin and hair.
Risk of Skin Irritation or Allergic Reaction: Regular use or contact can cause irritation, rashes, or allergic reactions, especially in horses with sensitive skin.
When Might It Be Used?
Some people occasionally use diluted dish soap to remove heavy grease or stains (like in extreme cases of mud or oils), but it should be followed with a proper equine conditioner and not used regularly.
Best Practice: Always use shampoos and conditioners specifically made for horses or gentle animal-safe products that maintain coat health and skin balance.
