Nuneaton & Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary

Nuneaton & Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary A Wildlife Sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of wild birds and animals. In 5 years we have had over 320 swans come in to our care.

In June 2000, an injured swan was taken to a vet and after treatment it needed 10 days of rest and further medication, but there was nowhere in the area to take him so it got put to sleep. This is when the decision was made to set up Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary. In February 2001, the Warwickshire wildlife sanctuary opened its doors to wildlife casualties, and our very first casual

ty was a swan that had crash landed on the M6, thankfully only in shock and no permanent injury so was released successfully. Some were young, some were just shocked but a lot of them had been purposely hurt by human beings, either shot wounds, fishing line/hooks, etc. This is something we have to face each and every week, not just with swans but a lot of wildlife. September 2001 saw our first domestic rabbit. Rosie was a black and white Dutch rabbit, if we didn’t take Rosie in the owners threatened to release her to the wild, where she wouldn’t survive. This was the first of many domestic pet we have taken in. In November 2006, the sanctuary became a registered charity under the name Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, registered charity number 1116741.

Hi All, Emma here.

Please read this article that has just hit Nuneaton News. We were not aware of this going out but I for one am delighted to hear that my dad Geoff may finally be awarded for his endless work within the borough. All I am aware of at this stage is that he was nominated for an award by the public of nuneaton in 2024, but he was deferred. I can only presume this was because the timings coincided with when we took the council to the appeal court for a falsely issued abatement notice and won against them.

This is more than an award. Yes, Geoff absolutely fits the criteria for it and definitely deserves it but it's also about the people of Nuneaton having their votes and choices honored.

We have always maintained that we wish to move on from what we were put through and hopefully this is a start.

Please share and sign the petition in the article if you can.

With love and thanks, Emma

He has run the sanctuary for almost a quarter of a century and helped thousands of animals
