🐾 If you’ve been told your dog is just getting old… please read this.
We’ve all heard it:
“Ah, he’s slowing down – it’s just age.”
“She’s sleeping more now – she’s getting on a bit.”
“He doesn’t play like he used to – that’s normal for his age.”
But here’s the truth… age is not a disease.
Dogs don’t stop playing, moving, or enjoying life just because they’ve had a few more birthdays.
In many cases, these changes are actually early signs of pain or discomfort:
⚠️ Arthritis and joint issues
⚠️ Dental pain
⚠️ Muscle injuries
⚠️ Digestive discomfort
⚠️ Underlying illness
Dogs are experts at hiding pain — it’s an instinct to survive. But that means subtle changes in behaviour are often the first clue something isn’t right.
If your dog:
🐕 Is less keen on walks
🐕 Takes longer to get up
🐕 Is avoiding stairs, jumping, or certain games
🐕 Seems grumpy with dogs or people they used to love
🐕 Sleeps more than usual
…then it’s worth talking to your vet and ruling out pain before accepting it as “old age.”
Your dog deserves to feel comfortable at every stage of life — and sometimes a small change in treatment or management can bring back their sparkle. ✨
