🚨 There has been a case of seasonal canine illness in the area…please be careful!! 🚨

Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI) is a potentially serious and sometimes fatal condition that affects dogs 24-72 hours after walking in woodland areas, most commonly between August and November.

Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, abdominal pain, and muscle tremors. The cause is unknown, though harvest mites have been a focus of research. There is no specific test or cure, so prompt veterinary attention, supportive care like IV fluids, antibiotics, and anti-sickness medication, is crucial for recovery

If you walk in woodland areas please keep a close eye on your dogs, harvest mites are commonly found between toes on dogs and can be seen by the naked eye.

🐾 Holidaying in the UK with Your Dog? Here’s What You Need to Know! 🇬🇧🐶

Planning a UK staycation with your furry friend this summer? Travelling with your dog can be a fantastic way to make memories — but a little preparation goes a long way to ensure a safe and happy trip for everyone involved.

Here are our top tips for UK dog-friendly travel:

✅ Check your accommodation
Make sure your hotel, cottage, campsite, or B&B welcomes dogs — and check if there are any rules (like no dogs on furniture or extra cleaning fees).

🚗 Travel safely
Your dog should be securely restrained. Use a harness, crate, or pet seatbelt — and never leave them in a hot car, even for a few minutes.

🤢 Travel sickness? You’re not alone
Dogs can get motion sickness too — especially puppies and young dogs. Signs include drooling, lip licking, restlessness, whining, or vomiting.
💡 Top tips:
• Keep the car cool and well ventilated
• Avoid feeding 2–3 hours before travel
• Use a familiar blanket or toy for comfort
• Try short journeys to build up tolerance
If travel sickness is an issue, speak to us — we can offer safe, medication to help make the journey smoother.

📋 Pack the essentials
Bring food, water, leads, poo bags, a bed or blanket, favourite toys, and any medications. Don’t forget a towel — for muddy adventures or unexpected swims!

🐕 Stick to routine
Try to keep feeding and walking times consistent — a familiar routine helps reduce stress in new places.

🐾 Plan dog-friendly activities
There are loads of dog-friendly beaches, walks and even cafes and pubs around the UK. Check local restrictions (especially for beaches during summer months) and keep your dog on a lead if livestock are nearby.

🩺 Health check before you go
If your dog hasn’t had a check-up recently, we’re here to help. We can check they’re fit to travel, and make sure they’re up to date on flea, tick and worming protection.

🐶 ID tags & microchips
Make sure that ID tags and microchips are up to date in case they go missing in a new area.

Wherever you’re heading — from Derbyshire to the Cornish coast — we hope you and your dog have a paws-itively brilliant UK adventure! 🌿🐕

📍 Need help with travel sickness, parasite protection or a quick check-up before you go? We’re here for you — just give us a call ☎️

🔥🐾 It’s a scorcher today! 🐶☀️

Here are some important tips to help keep your furry friends cool and safe during hot weather:

🌳 Provide Plenty of Shade
Make sure your pets have access to a cool, shady spot—whether it’s under a tree, canopy, or inside. Direct sunlight can quickly cause overheating and even heatstroke.

💧 Fresh, Cool Water—Always!
Keep their water bowls full and clean. On especially hot days, add ice cubes to help keep the water cooler for longer. Staying hydrated is key to preventing heat-related illness.

🏠 Bring Pets Indoors During Peak Heat
Between 11am and 4pm, temperatures are often at their highest. If you’re hot, they’re hotter! Bring pets inside where it’s cooler, especially flat-faced breeds (like pugs and bulldogs) or older animals who struggle more in the heat.

🚗 NEVER Leave Pets in Parked Cars
Even with the windows cracked, cars heat up dangerously fast. In minutes, the temperature inside can soar past 100°F (38°C). It’s deadly—just don’t risk it.

🐾 Protect Those Paws
Hot pavement and asphalt can burn your pet’s paw pads. Try the “5-second test”—if you can’t hold your hand on the surface for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws. Walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

🧊 Cool Treats & Chill-Out Time
Make dog-safe frozen treats (like frozen peanut butter in ice cube trays or ice cubes with a few pieces of fruit). You can also use a cool damp towel, pet cooling mats, or even a little kiddie pool for splashing!

💬 Know the Signs of Heatstroke
Heavy panting, drooling, confusion, vomiting, or collapse are all red flags. If you notice these, call your vet immediately and move your pet to a cool spot right away.

Let’s keep our companions safe and comfy this summer! They count on us to protect them. ❤️🐾
