307 (South Nottinghamshire Hussars) Artillery Battery 307 (South Nottingham Hussars Yeomanry Royal Horse Artillery) Battery RA (V) Troops in the north of the County were regimented as the Sherwood Rangers.

The Nottingham Town Troop was raised in the year, 1794, and its first 'engagements' were to help suppress food riots in Nottingham, in 1795 and 1800, and the dispersal of Luddite rioters, in 1811. Other troops were raised, at Holme Pierrepont and Bunny, in 1798, and at Wollaton and Watnall, in 1817. The troops were regimented, in 1826, as the Southern Regiment of Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Cavalry,

and became known as the South Notts. Hussars, informally, around 1887, and formally, in 1903, the Acorn cap badge having replaced the 'SNYC' monogram in 1898. Since 1990, the role of the TA has been to provide reinforcements to the Regular Army, whenever it finds itself overstretched. South Notts. Hussars have served as detachments in Belize and Cyprus, in non-combatant roles, and as individual reinforcements, in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, on Active Service. They have also trained in Canada and the USA.

Remembering Sgt Gavin Mark Hillier. 🕯️

A proud Welsh Guard, devoted father, and respected soldier, Gavin served with honor across multiple tours including Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 2019, he was deeply committed to his role and comrades. Tragically, he passed in a training incident in 2021. Forever missed by family, friends, and the Regiment.

Remembering Royal Marine Damian Davies this festive period. 🎖️🎄

Matthew and his family don’t have any set-in-stone traditions remembering Damian at Christmas. Instead, they prefer simply talking about him and remembering the time they spent together.

“We always talk about dad at Christmas and people often tell me how similar we both are. He loved a good biscuit, for a start, and would eat them by the handful. Sometimes he’d apparently just sit there and work through a whole packet, which I can relate to.

🎨🖌️In 2021, army veteran Kevin Willis, who served with the Royal Logistic Corps, began the portraits of all 457 who died serving in Afghanistan. He has now finished the paintings and is trying to find the last family members to send the paintings to.

His main objective of the project was to "help everyone remember our fallen friends and soldiers".

Amazing work, Kevin!👏

A Scottish war veteran who played a vital role during the D-Day landings has paid tribute to those who gave their lives ahead of the battle’s 80th anniversary next year.

Albert Lamond, 98, is cared for by Erskine Veterans Charity at the Veteran’s Village, Bishopton, Renfrewshire, a charity we are pleased to have supported.

Mr Lamond will be focused on the events of June 6 1944, where he watched from the sea as the battle raged on the beaches of Normandy, marking the start of the liberation of Western Europe from the N***s.

Mr Lamond joined the Royal Navy at the age of 18 when he joined in 1943.

We thank you for your brave service.

Join us in wishing a Happy 100th Birthday to WW2 Bomber Command veteran Angus Hughes!🎂🎉

Angus joined the RAAF in July 1942, aged 19. On his 32nd mission in 1944, his aircraft was hit by enemy flak over Germany, forcing the crew to bail out. He spent three months as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft 7 in Germany, where he was forced to march for 21 days over a distance of 200km in bitterly cold conditions.

Thank you for your service, Angus. We hope you had a fantastic birthday!
