💧Dehydration💧

A pet owners, it is important to know the signs your dog, or cat, is dehydrated.

Dry gums, sunken eyes and low energy. Keep water topped up, shade close by, and if it's too hot, skip the walk.

Although mostly seen in dogs, any of these symptoms in cats are also extremely concerning and so fresh water should be accessible at all times to them too.

☀️Is it TOO HOT for your pet☀️
Our pets struggle in the heat much more than us due to their thick coats!

Too much heat can lead to heatstroke and/or dehydration so make sure to check the temperature before walking your dog outside - do this by firstly checking the weather forecast and then doing the 'touch test' by seeing if you can keep your hand on the pavement for longer than 5-10 seconds, if not, then your dog cannot walk on it with their paws!

Missing a walk won't affect your dog but walking them in this heat may have serious consequences, including death.

If you have a routine appointment booked in or an appointment that isn't urgent anytime this week, and would like to rearrange this, please let us know, or if you are worried about your pet in the heat then please make sure to contact your local Scarsdale Vets Site.

Today is BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY!

We love all the cats out there...however, black cats often get a bad reputation because of their association with bad luck or witches, and they often get overlooked when in rescue looking for a new home.

So we just wanted to make sure that every black cat has a bit of extra love today ❤

☀Hot Weather Today!☀

With very hot weather forecast for today, we don't want any pets struggling on the way to see us.

We would like to kindly discourage walking to any of our Scarsdale sites, and instead look to arrive in air conditioned cars or rearranging for a cooler time or different day —especially for older pets, brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, or those who may find vet visits stressful in the heat.

If your appointment is routine and you would like to reschedule, please do let your local Scarsdale site know.

For more information on keeping your pets cool, like Darcy here who is chilling on a cool mat, see Pet Health Club helpful guide here: https://www.pethealthclub.com/.../how-to-cool-down-a-dog

Wheels in the Park is back – and this time, we’ve got TWO dates!

After the amazing success of last year’s event, we’re inviting you and your four-legged friends to join Lola and the gang for a gentle “wheel” or walk around beautiful Markeaton Park.

Whether your dog is in the early stages of recovery from a spinal injury, zooming along in wheels, or happiest in a stroller – this is the perfect opportunity to get outside, connect, and meet others on a similar journey.

Event dates:
1️⃣ Sunday 24th August, 10:30am - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wheels-in-the-park-24th-august-tickets-1580621474379?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

2️⃣ Monday 1st September, 11:00am -
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wheels-in-the-park-1st-september-tickets-1580682747649?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

Meeting point: The CafĂŠ in Markeaton Park, Markeaton Lane, Derby DE22 4AA

The walk will be a short, flat, 15-minute loop that’s fully wheelchair accessible (for both people and pets!). Afterwards, stay for a relaxed picnic/chat in the park - bring your favourite snacks, a flask, and your dog’s water.

A few quick notes:

Dogs in strollers are welcome.

This is a safe, supportive space for owners of disabled pets and four-legged, dog friendly siblings are welcome too.

Please register so we know who to expect. You’re welcome to join both days - the more the merrier!

Parking, toilets, and a cafĂŠ are available on-site. please head to https://www.inderby.org.uk/parks/derbys-parks-and-open-spaces/markeaton-park/ for more information.

In the event of extreme heat or heavy rain, we’ll contact you via Eventbrite about postponement.

☀Heatwave again!☀

The sun is out and temperatures are due to be very high all week!

Although for us humans, it is pretty nice to be out in the sun, this kind of weather is not suitable for animals to be outside in — especially older pets, brachycephalic breeds, or those who find vet visits stressful.

If you have a routine appointment booked in or an appointment that isn't urgent anytime this week, and would like to rearrange this, please let us know.

Here are several ways to keep your animals cool over the next few days:
- Cool mats (as pictured below with Merlin in his crate)
- Cool, fresh, constant water available - you can add ice cubes to their bowl
- Provide lots of shade
- Limit exercise and walk only in early mornings
