Georgina Evans

Georgina Evans An aspiring graduate with a passion for unusual materials and body adornments.

Georgina Evans is a Nottingham based designer, currently completing her MA in contemporary craft at Nottingham Trent. Her most recent and sucsessful collection is titled Beastly in which she explores the relationships between gender, species and display. The collection serves the dual purpose of interchangeable pieces between jewellery and display, originating from the idea that jewellery doesn’t

have to be worn on the body to be seen. Using ethically sourced animal horn and human hair, Georgina has created a collection of androgynous brooches that reduce the client to a primitive state of being, in the hope of encouraging the equality of gender and species through asexual body adornments. Working with a contrasting range of materials, such as Buffalo horn and human hair, Georgina takes great care in sourcing her materials to ensure that no animals or people were subject to an unnecessary suffering.

Exploring the nuances between contemporary jewellery and fashion, I want to pinpoint an intersection that allows for creative liberty in fashion, while still maintaining an element of crafmanship. My selected materials are primarily chosen for their unusual aesthetics and the reactions they generate once removed from their original context. I chose unfamiliar materials that had the most textual impact; goat fur, porcupine quills, cow horn, assorted leathers, human and horse hair. Each of these materials pose an unusual aesthetic and texture, that when combined have the potential to create something never seen before;
A Hybrid.

β€’I've some how managed to get a scholarship with Paul Smith in Tokyo! (I still can't wrap my head around that).
β€’All the while my internship with Emily Margaret Hill continues.

I don't know if I want to laugh or cry.
