Out of our comfort zone & learning more of a new sport today 😊

Fulfilment for old lady Lucy (nearly 13) looks quite different to fulfilment for 10 month old Mash.

Walks are shorter now as she can't manage big distances, but we swap up locations for different sights, smells & terrain under her feet 🌳

We say nice hellos to friendly approaching dogs - dogs are a social species & I do believe socialising with their own species where appropriate is important.

We do little bits of breed specific games - just altered to be more appropriate for her age & condition. In Lucy's case, we do hidden tennis ball retrieves in long grass, so she has to use her nose to find it.

She's still up for a little game of tuggy.

Home for a long lasting natural chew.

But mostly we just enjoy this time together πŸ₯°

Happy Saturday!
I had a lovely (mostly uneventful bar one episode of having to retrieve her from some bushes πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) walk with the wildling lurcher this morning. Now for an afternoon of gaining a more in-depth understanding of seperation anxiety, via Jo-Rosie Haffendens online academy πŸ€“

Babydogs leash walking progress 🫢🏻

Everyone's expectations of leash walking are different. I personally don't care where she walks so long as she's not tanking me down the street.

- She's not a robot
- She's allowed to interact with the environment (after all, it's her walk not mine)
- We are very much in teenage brain fog right now, as you can see when she gets distracted by leaves at the beginning, but regains her focus nicely
- I don't yet expect this in high arousal environments, such as flyball training. The ability to engage with me in such environments is more than enough for now whilst her brain is going through so many changes so rapidly (helloooo adolescence πŸ‘‹πŸ»)
- She's a good girl πŸ₯°

Food in my pocket but not in my hand, the engagement seen here is just her history of reinforcement doing it's thing πŸ˜‰

Starting to shape an object hold with Mash, criteria right now is just to put mouth around the object ☺️

Clicker as our terminal marker (except when I said yes as didn't have the clicker ready in time πŸ™ˆ) & good old cocktail sausages as her reward 😜

Although she was bred specifically for flyball, one of the things I've been excited to get back into is alllllllllll the dog sports!

On Saturday me & mashy went to our first beginner agility class. Wildly out of my comfort zone as I know next to nothing about the sport bar having a play at classes with jacko years & years ago. She was introduced to some of the equipment, & also worked on being patient & settling in-between goes whilst other dogs were running (not her strongest skill for sure!).

Bit of an emotional drive there as the last time I drove to any sort of training class like this was with jacko (strange how grief works isn't it)!

I am megaaaa excited to get into this with her though!
