I had such a fabulous day today at the university of Nottingham networking day. I saw some friends from my past university days and met some new friends! A huge shout out to Sarah Marlor for giving me a lift there. It was a really fun and informative day and I can’t wait to go again next year!🤩👩‍🎓🥰
For those who didn’t know I also had to push myself out of my comfort zone and do a lecture about how to train your canine clients to do their exercises! I also covered pain related behavioral issues and co-operative care in industry, I can’t wait to dive into these topics in more detail over the next few months with our CPD events! Link to the page at the end of the reel.
The day went so fast I didn’t manage to even say hello to all the wonderful students I had with me this year, which made me super sad as I enjoyed having every one of them out with me and would have loved to chat more - but my door is always open should anyone need to chat 🥰 Hopefully see you all there next year? 🙏🏻

Think of veterinary laser therapy like photosynthesis for animals. Instead of using heat to burn or cut, a completely painless, cool light is aimed at the sore area.
It recharges cells. The light penetrates deep into the tissues and acts like a battery charger for damaged cells, giving them the energy to heal much faster.
It blocks pain: The laser calms irritated nerves so they stop sending "ouch" signals to the brain, while naturally releasing the body's own feel-good pain relievers.
It clears out swelling: It opens up blood vessels to bring in fresh oxygen and flushes away the fluid causing painful inflammation.
Because it doesn't hurt and requires no pills, it is especially popular for cats (who are notoriously hard to give medication to) and horses or dogs with stiff, arthritic joints.

One of the most heavily cited papers in veterinary laser therapy looked at whether the treatment could actually replace daily painkillers for arthritic pets.

The Study: “A randomised blind placebo-controlled trial investigating the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on canine elbow osteoarthritis” (Published in BMC Veterinary Research).

What they found: Researchers looked at 20 dogs with chronic arthritis. Half got real laser therapy for 6 weeks, and half got a "placebo" (fake) light treatment.
The Result: 9 out of 11 dogs in the laser group were able to drastically reduce their daily dose of NSAID painkillers, and their lameness scores significantly improved. In the fake-laser group, no dogs were able to reduce their medication.

Can you see the cheeky tounge looking for the primular cheese? We are using the natural enrichment around the garden to support little Winnie on her strengthening journey with us today. Winnie is 10 months old and we are using target physiotherapy to help build up her strength and encourage her to grow and develop in the right way. Our focus is on her hindlimbs as she tends to slightly offload the RH. We are so excited to see how she develops and grows, she’s a lovely dog with a wonderful attitude and is a credit to her pawrents 🐾🥰🤩

While rest is crucial, prolonged, unmanaged immobilisation causes rapid tissue breakdown. A detailed review published in Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice titled "Evidence for Canine Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy" synthesised recent data on joint disuse. The research highlights that strict cage rest without controlled movement leads to severe muscle atrophy, decreased synovial fluid production (the joint's natural lubricant), and a marked loss of cartilage thickness (Millboer & Millis).

This is why a traditional "wait and see" approach can accidentally stall a pet's recovery. Safe, early physiotherapy intervention—such as passive range of motion (PROM) stretches and gentle tissue mobilisations—keeps that vital joint fluid moving and protects muscle mass long before your pet is ready for normal walks.

Is your pet on strict rest after an injury or surgery? Let’s keep their joints healthy from the comfort of their bed. Click the link to book a gentle, post-op assessment!

The dog industry is stronger when we support each other. ❤️

Over the last few days I’ve seen trainers sharing posts from other trainers, daycare owners promoting local walkers, behaviourists recommending physiotherapists, and businesses checking in on one another after a weekend of cancellations due to the heat.

And honestly? That’s exactly how it should be.

No single person can be an expert in everything.

The best outcomes for dogs happen when trainers, behaviourists, physiotherapists, groomers, walkers, daycare providers, vets, nutrition professionals, hydrotherapists and pet businesses work together.

When I recommend another professional, it’s never because I’m “losing” a client. It’s because I genuinely believe that person is the best fit for that particular dog or owner.

The dog world doesn’t need more gatekeeping.

It needs more collaboration.

More cheering each other on.

More sharing opportunities.

More celebrating each other’s successes.

Because at the end of the day, every single one of us got into this industry for the same reason…

To help dogs live happier, healthier lives.

So today I’d love to give a shout out to another dog professional or pet business that you think deserves some recognition.

Tag them below and tell us why they’re brilliant. 👇
