Some good advice here for keeping your dog safe during this weather

Happy Friday everyone!πŸ‘‹
I've been a bit quiet on here as life is incredibly busy at the moment and...well we've been trying not to melt away in this heat!

At this time of year there's 3 things we need to watch out for and thats the heat, grass seeds and ticks.

TICKS!
If you see a tick do not worry, if you give regular treatment then they will die very quickly and fall off. If you dont give regular treatment or you understandably want it gone then I highly recommend a tick twister. Its very important you remove the body with the head intact and personally a tick twister guarantees this compared to tweezers. If you're struggling or dont have the tool then drop me a message and I'll remove it for you!
Once removed it is up to you to seek your own vengeance, whether that is squashing, burning or drowning ill leave that up to you πŸ˜‚

GRASS SEEDS
Are found in long grass and look like upside down Christmas trees. Although our local fields are very convenient for the dogs and they love them please do be careful as they stick into the skin and track up into the body so easily. Removal can cost hundreds of pounds each time! We cant always avoid them but the most common places are ears, eyes, nose, armpits and between the toes. Signs of a stuck grass seed are excessive licking, scratching, head shaking and soreness.

HEAT
A dog has never died from missing a walk. Please do be careful when going out! I highly recommend going out first thing in the morning before 7am or later at night but even then it is still so hot at night. Take water, take breaks, go down into the river and walk through the woods if its quite warm and familiarise yourself with the signs of heatstroke!
Every dog has different limits based on breed, coat, age, weight and life stage so do what is best for your individual dog not what others do.
If you're concerned your dog is overheating provide cool water and allow them to either lay on or place a wet towel on them to gradually bring their temperature down. If in doubt get straight to the vets as heat can and will kill.
You can keep your dog cool by using cooling mats, frozen toys and treats, wet towels and pools.

Here's my hot boy cooling down by the poolafter his morning walk!

Please note that a dog with dead/matted coat stuck to them CAN NOT efficiently regulate their own temperature. Please brush through your dog's and remove any dead fur or knots, if your dog is matted please book in ASAP as their skin needs to breathe!

Have a lovely weekend guys🌞

DATR OPEN DAY 2025!!!! FREE ENTRY!
Saturday, 28th Jun 2025: 1030am to 4.30pm.

This event is held every other year & it is always a very popular event! The official Poster & some more details follow:

The DATR Open Day is suitable for individuals, couples, groups of friends & families with children. With a forecast of 50 stalls of interest & vendors, there will be lots to see & do!

Note: Pets cannot be brought to this Open Day event due to the presence of Military Working Animals on display & being used in demonstrations.

Military Demonstrations will take place all day in the main arena! Lots of Military Working Animals (Dogs / Horses) & Mascots (a wide variety of animal types) will be available to meet or see! We also listened to our 2023 feedback & have planned more food / drinks vendors due to the last event's high footfall!

Main arena events start at 1030am, but carparks & walk-ins are open from 10am onwards. Other facilities such as interest stalls & food / drinks vendors will begin to open from 10am, enabling you to explore & refresh before the demonstrations begin. Main arena demonstrations finish at 4.30pm. At this time, the Open Day will close. You are not constrained by the opening time/s listed & may arrive at any time before 4.30pm!

There will be lots of other places on site to explore, such as Military Working Animal Rehoming, Veterinary, Military Mascot Animals & Farriery displays. The event will also feature a flypast by a historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight plane. This is forecast for mid-afternoon, but the historical plane featured & an exact time will be confirmed during the event (due to on-the-day plane choice availability & flight-path approvals that are out of our control). A Military band from the Royal Military School of Music have been booked & will play on-the-march in the arena.

More details will be published on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter-X) at a later date, so please hit that 'Like', 'Follow' & 'SHARE' button!

Some lovely feedback from a customer who wanted some good quality long leads to let her 2 big prey driven dogs have some freedom but still keep them safe.

''Thank you so much for keeping in touch throughout making the leads and answering my questions.

I am impressed with the quality and finishing touches to the leads. The velcro is perfect to keep the lead tidy when looped in. They give my girls freedom to roam and play fetch but also helps with training. So thank you. :)''

Love seeing pics of these two adventure paws. They get out more than most people!

They've been using their patrol leads for a while now, there's something I like about a well worn lead that's been put through its paces, it's seen some mileage but still working a treat and as Strong as new.

Fall in. The camo range is here!
I have been wanting to add camo as a colour option for a while and have now managed to source camo rope of the right quality and size. So here it is. My full range from slips, clip on and collars.
I'm trying to tidy up the website to make it easier with me adding more colour and thickness options recently. As always if you can't see what you need on the website then send me a PM and I can make it to order.
