October is here, meaning it’s black cat season!🐈⬛
But did you know black cats are actually the least adopted, most overlooked cats at adoptions centres often because of the beliefs that they are bad luck. Being a mum of a black cat, I am here to tell you why they make the best pets and despite all of the myths and superstitions the best member of your family!
🖤 Researchers have discovered that the genetic mutation that cause cats to have black fur is also associated with increased immune resistance, protecting them against diseases such as FIV.
🖤The same melanin content that darkens their fur also gives many black cats vibrant eyes, giving them the striking contrast they are known for.
🖤Despite being overlooked and under loved, fully black cats are actually very rare. Most cats commonly have different coloured paw pads or whiskers, making them extra special!
🖤In some cultures black cats are actually considered good luck, specifically in France and Germany they are thought to bring good fortune and wealth.
🖤Black cats have their own days, August 17th black cat appreciation day and October 27th national black cat day both of which were created in hopes to dispel the myths around their association with bad luck.
🖤Historically, sailors believed a black cat at home was a good luck charm, bringing their owners safe passage. In ancient eygpt, all cats were considered sacred but black cats were especially protected and even worshipped.
This spooky season, why not make a black cat the star of your home!🎃🐾
