Now that autumn is here, the ground is going to be littered with acorns and conkers. If conkers or acorns are eaten or chewed by your dog, they could become seriously unwell. They’re toxic for dogs, and in some cases can even be deadly.

They’re also a choking hazard and can cause blockages in your dog’s gut.

If you’re concerned your dog might’ve chewed or eaten a conker or acorn, or they’re showing signs of illness, speak to your vet right away.

Please take care this autumn.

Reminder: keep your dogs safe from conkers this autumn 🌳

Conkers fall from the horse chestnut tree, common all over the UK. Conkers and acorns can be toxic to dogs and, in some cases, can even be deadly. They can lead to symptoms such as 👇

• Vomiting (being sick)
• Diarrhoea (an upset stomach)
• Stomach Pain
• Restlessness
• Urticaria (rash)
• Swelling around the eyes and mouth
• Not being able to move (or even collapsing)

If you are concerned your dog has chewed or consumed conkers or acorns, or is showing signs of illness, please contact a vet immediately.

Most tinned dog foods use common proteins like chicken and beef. A dog's immune system can develop an allergy from repeated exposure to these common ingredients. Dogs are generally least allergic to novel protein sources that are uncommon in their diets, such as venison, duck, rabbit, and fish. Beef and chicken are common allergens, so choosing a protein your dog hasn't been exposed to can reduce the likelihood of an allergic reaction.

About the Pettitt and Boo Revolution

At Pettitt and Boo, we believe that our best friends deserve the best, but that quality treats shouldn't have a hefty price tag. We stock a broad range of treats for dogs & puppies, as well as cats.

We’re calling time on poor quality dog foods, that are deceptive with their labelling, that use sub-standard ingredients, that are lacking in health benefits for our beloved pets and that are mostly overpriced. This is the second shop opened by self-confessed dog-fools, Adrian and Ali, who will never compromise on the health and well-being of our pets. Always friendly, welcoming and with great advice, we really hope you will pop in soon (please bring puppies!)
