We recently visited our trade partners, De Jong Marinelife in The Netherlands, to test the cPUR measurements of our latest innovation: PARwise Pro.

De Jong Marinelife is the largest coral farm and fish nursery in Europe, making it an ideal location to observe the spectrum, intensity, and Daily Light Integral (DLI) they utilize to cultivate high-quality corals.

Their established Acropora systems employ a high cPUR reading, using a wide spectrum with significant intensity (circa 500 near the surface). Corals with lower light demands, such as LPS, are grown under lower intensity with a spectrum peaking at 450nm. All the light used for growing these corals falls well within the actual coral Zooxanthellae absorbance curves, as indicated by the cPUR graph.

It is evident that the team at De Jong has an excellent understanding of the optimal light settings required for coral growth. The PARwise Pro significantly assists the team at De Jong in ensuring their lights are perfectly calibrated for the needs of the corals, enhancing their ability to grow healthy and vibrant corals.

This collaboration showcases the exceptional synergy between innovative technology and expert knowledge, leading to remarkable results in coral cultivation.

Dana Riddle, the long time aquarist, MASNA “Aquarist of the Year”
award winner and well known author of “The Captive Reef”, has written and published over 250 articles spanning the last 30 years. Dana is widely considered a revered authority on lighting in the marine aquarium and given this, we asked him if he would test our new PARwise Pro device. We were thrilled that Dana was delighted to participate and run the test at his facility in the US! 😀

Hello everyone, 👋

Exciting news!

As part on our ongoing development and feedback from the community, we are delighted to share that we have added some great new features to the PARwise Pro in the latest software update.

See below summary of the update:

1.More prominence to the cPUR value measurement.

2.Added 30-second averages analysis, this measurement represents the mean photon flux density captured within that duration thus negating light changes through e.g. turbidity in the aquarium.

3.Added ‘cPUR light suitability’ and ‘waste light’ as a percentage to help dial in your light settings for optimal coral growth & health

4.Added a Pigments analysis to the dashboard. You can now view an absorption spectrum graph and % for each of the following: Peridinin, Fucoxanthin, Chlorophyll A, Chlorophyll B, Chlorophyll C, Chlorophyll D and Beta Carotene to aid with photosynthetic efficiency.

Each new setting is further explained by clicking the ? next to the data box description.

We hope these additions further assist the reefing community to understand the importance of creating the right kind of light when choosing the light settings in the aquarium.

Light is food for corals!
