We used a company called pet chip to change Lucille’s detail on line for £21 into our name but have just found out it was a scam 😡, all done and paid again now to pet trac.
The scam company looks good and changes name regularly so it’s diff to spot.
So thankful for this attached article as if she were lost she would not be able to come back to us.
Please check all microchips as this has evidently been happening for some time xx
⚠ Beware of microchip scams ⚠
Microchipping your pet is an essential step in keeping them safe, but did you know that not all microchip registration services are legitimate?
We recently had a case where a client rehomed a pet and paid to transfer the microchip details to their name through a website called 'Petchip Network'. A year later, they discovered that the transfer had never actually taken place, and the previous owner was still registered on the microchip. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.
Here are a couple of articles that highlight the growing concern:

We’ve also received reports that 'Petchip Network' have been emailing pet owners, claiming their pets' microchip has expired and asking for payment to update it.
To ensure your pet’s safety, always make sure microchip registrations and transfers are handled through DEFRA-approved databases. Trusted databases include Animal Tracker, Petlog, Identibase, and SmartTrace. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for guidance.
You can also check if your pet’s microchip is correctly registered by entering the microchip number at www.check-a-chip.co.uk. Remember, a microchip is only useful if it holds the correct owner information!
Stay vigilant and keep you and your pet safe! 🐾
