We can’t share this information often enough, because it might just save a life - please do give it a read.

Even if your own pets are cool & comfortable, you may be able to educate someone else. (Mark saw 2 dogs being walked down the sunny side of Unthank Road yesterday afternoon, around 5pm. Their owner couldn’t have been wearing much less, yet there was clearly no thought given to the poor dogs in fur coats, walking with bare feet. Fortunately, someone else had the argument as Mark was stuck at the lights, but a few choice words were spoken!).

Please do take extra care out there - if it’s uncomfortably hot for you, think of your pets who can’t remove any layers. The ‘feels like’ temperature is the one you need to consider when walking your dogs - it can feel considerably warmer than the ‘actual temperature’ because of the humidity, making it even harder for your dog to cope.

While Basil’s roasting himself on a pile of VetBed in the alcove downstairs, Maude’s as cool as a cucumber & perfectly happy chilling in front of a fan. She’s so much more intelligent than she likes to let on!

The unfathomable logic of a cat…
Same day, same heat, 2 photos taken 10 minutes apart…

One north-facing bathroom, an open skylight & plenty of cool air circulating, it’s definitely the coolest place in the house, & Basil’s in the (very cold) enamel bath. He couldn’t have found a better spot.

Then: one south-facing sitting room, & he’s settled down in an alcove under some shelving on some VetBed, containing zero natural fibres. There’s no fresh air circulating because it’s the wrong side of the house, & he’s absolutely roasting…

What on earth is he thinking? And I thought he was the brains of the outfit! (Maude, on the other hand, has settled herself down directly in front of a fan & wont move all day…).

An hour down Marriotts Way was just what the doctor ordered after the impossible heat of yesterday, & everyone we met was lovely - they all said how beautiful & well-behaved our dogs were, & they’re not wrong. (I couldn’t resist a team photo to prove the point!).

With Bess, Lilly, Mabel 3, Nala, Ozzie, Stanley, & Winnie 2…

It won’t surprise you that we’re playing it safe today & this message going out to all our dog clients this morning. It’s too hot for us, & it’s definitely going to be too hot for them! Please do let us know if you’d like us to call in & give your beloved pooch a comfort break instead. (We’re still planning a short walk first thing for those dogs with us for the day, & for those who refuse to go in the garden, but numbers are limited…).

Cool collars for all & the best part of an hour in the shade this morning. None of us minded!

Bonnie’s fixation with Roxie continues; Rosie 2, Frankie 2 & Maple found a hole to dig (I’m sure Rosie ate most of the mud - see the attached photo!); Bess found a chunk of wood to chew on & everyone else just chilled out because they know what’s best & they’re really very sensible.

Shout out to Ziggy 3, who’s thoroughly enjoying his transition from a huge Day Care centre in Kent to something a little less fraught - he’s settling in brilliantly!

Day Care done right is as much about R & R as it is about stimulating walks & social interaction; it’s impossible to overstate how much these guys love to sleep, & it’s lovely to see them come back to the house, choose a favourite spot & just crash out.

Taken over the last couple of days, Bess, Bonnie, Chewie, Mabel 3, Lilly, Nala, Ozzie, Poppy & Ziggy 3 definitely know how to chill…!

While we leave our Home Boarders happily snoozing after their walk at UEA this morning, groups 2 & 3 make the most of Marriotts Way & Sweet Briar Nature Reserve. How lucky are we to have these places on our doorstep?

To say the newest kid on the block enjoyed his first trip to Mousehold would be an understatement, as would saying he likes water & would chase every bicycle - his owners certainly weren’t joking about that, & we have taken note…!
