It’s been 8 months since Jude joined us for a proper walk, having developed a fear of the van out of nowhere last October. Given that he’s booked in for 3 weeks of Home Boarding with us in August, & we didn’t want to risk having to do street walks from our place every day in the grips of another potential heatwave, we suggested it was time to gently persuade him back towards the wheels he’s been so desperate to avoid. Well, look at him now…finally ‘out, out!’.

He’s had a month of gentle immersion therapy with daily visits, lots & lots of lovely pâté, & I think we’re finally getting somewhere! Yesterday he made it to UEA with Bess, Mabel 4 & Waldo, & today he made it to the woods off Waterworks Road with Charlie, Lilly & Nala!

We’re so proud of you, Jude - it’s been a long time coming! ❤️ ❤️

Welcome home, Squeaky!

Currently delighted to see this gorgeous girl back where she belongs, & wishing she could tell us where on earth she’s been. Why are cats always so blasé? She has no idea what we’ve been through over the last few days, watching her food go down & having no clue where her new favourite place is - she appeared out of nowhere this evening as if nothing were amiss, & we’ve been tearing our hair out & clearly worrying far too much!

(She now has the honour of being our longest ever absentee, although she’s obviously snuck back to eat at some point. Suffice to say it’s record we hope won’t ever be broken!).

And along with Aristotle the Axolotl, we have a mountain of cat visits this weekend as the summer season kicks in…

Bruce, Buddy, Gladi, Jasper, Lucia, Rocky, Roly, Squeak 2, Squeak 3 & Tilly all graced us with their presence this morning. (Gracie, Kai & Margot weren’t as keen to take part in a photo op, but we’re working on them!).

A scorching Spring Bank Holiday weekend is on the way across the UK, so now is the time to take extra care with our pets in the heat. ☀️🐾

Keep these simple tips in mind:

💧Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water (indoors and outdoors if needed)
🌳Stick to shaded areas and avoid walking pets during the hottest parts of the day
🐾 Check pavements before walks — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
⚠️Watch closely for signs of overheating such as heavy panting, drooling or lethargy
🔥Keep activity calm and minimal during peak temperatures

If your pet is overheating or you believe they have heatstroke, act quickly: cool them down immediately and contact your vet without delay.

Remember: “Wet then vet” — cooling comes first, then veterinary help straight away.

Before it clouded over & became far too dark at Mousehold, we finally have 2 of the lesser-photographed!

I think we got Peggy up this morning…& Waldo, who’s now completely deaf & needs a lovely treat wafted about an inch from his nose to stop him wandering off into the undergrowth!
