Grief is part of loving dogs.
There’s no way around it.
The moment we choose to share our lives with them, we accept that one day we will have to say goodbye. In between those moments comes the kind of love that changes routines, homes, priorities, and hearts.

For those who work with dogs, that experience is multiplied.
We celebrate recoveries, first walks back after injury, nervous dogs learning to trust again, older dogs finding comfort, and the quiet moments owners don’t always see. We build connections, even when we try to stay professional. So when a dog passes, it lands heavily.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that grief does not only belong to human relationships. Loss can carry exhaustion, sadness, and silence that people often underestimate. Many professionals keep showing up for others while carrying heartbreak of their own.

Every loss is heartfelt because every dog mattered.

At this time of year, we start to notice lots of posts circulating social media regarding rapeseed; these posts are shared extensively and can understandably worry many dog owners. The posts usually state that rapeseed is highly poisonous to dogs, and can cause signs including haemolytic anaemia, blindness, damaged nervous system, digestive disorders and breathing problems.

The signs mentioned are typically only seen in grazing animals, and most dogs actually remain asymptomatic after exposure to rapeseed. Dogs can develop gastrointestinal upset if they have ingested some of the plant, and there have been reports of skin reactions which resemble burns, but this is extremely rare and does not happen to every dog which comes into contact with it.

We are aware of the posts circulating regarding a dog that very sadly died after visiting a tulip festival.

We want to make it very clear that, despite what is circulating in the press and on social media, this dog did not die as a result of tulip poisoning.

As the UK’s only animal poison centre in the UK, we have managed over 1600 cases regarding tulips. Based on this evidence and our research, we can reassure the public that the clinical signs described in this case are not consistent with tulip toxicity. While tulips may cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested, severe cases are very uncommon. Other potential causes should be considered in this case.

If you’re concerned your pet may have been exposed to something harmful, please call Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000. Veterinary professionals can call the VPIS on 020 7305 5055.

This is good advice and worth remembering if your dog is bit by an adder. They are definitely around, I came across one today on my group walk. 🐍

Adders! They are about! This is the one in my garden.

To distinguish them, they have diamonds on their back.

If your dog is bitten please please lower everyone’s heart rate. Relax. Don’t tourniquet anything as the venom is already in the body, you’ll only make it worse.

The bitten area will be angry, you can pour cool water on it. But don’t rub it or try and clean it.

Pick your dog up and walk them to the car to then travel to the vet. Or walk at a snails pace back to your car. Keep heart rate low.

You can carry antihistamines BUT call your vet before giving them as they may and can make the situation worse.

Then head straight to your vet.

🦴 World Orthopaedic Day
Orthopaedic health in dogs isn’t one-dimensional — and great outcomes rarely come from one modality alone.

At CMG, we champion a multi-modal, collaborative approach to canine care. When skilled professionals work together, dogs benefit from more rounded, sustainable results.
Alongside clinical canine massage, this team may include:
• Veterinary surgeons
• Veterinary physiotherapists
• Hydrotherapists
• Canine chiropractors / osteopaths
• Veterinary nurses
• Behaviourists
• Pain management specialists
The list goes on!
Each plays a vital role in supporting movement, comfort, recovery and long-term joint health.

👇 Let’s celebrate collaboration
