☀️KEEP YOUR PET SAFE DURING HOT WEATHER☀️

Heatstroke can develop rapidly and is a life-threatening emergency that can affect dogs, cats, and rabbits, especially the more vulnerable ones. That’s why at Pawsome Kingdoms, we take seasonal changes seriously and adapt our care accordingly for each animal.

What is heatstroke?
Heatstroke occurs when your pet’s body can no longer regulate its internal temperature. Unlike humans, most pets can't sweat efficiently. Dogs rely heavily on panting, cats on grooming and shade, and rabbits on ear thermoregulation. When these mechanisms are overwhelmed by external heat, the result can be organ failure, seizures, or even death.

Dogs
Brachycephalic breeds (like Pugs, Bulldogs, Frenchies), older dogs, overweight pets, and those with cardiac or respiratory issues are most at risk. Even healthy dogs can collapse during walks on warm pavement or play sessions in the sun.

Cats
Cats are often overlooked when it comes to heat safety, but they’re just as vulnerable, especially Persians and other flat-faced breeds. They tend to seek out cool, hidden spots and may become lethargic or start rapid breathing.

At Pawsome Kingdoms, we:
1. Move all walks to early morning or late evening.
2. Provide cool-down breaks during play.
3. Avoid car travel during peak heat unless essential.
4. Use cool mats, shaded spots, and fans indoors.
5. Monitor for early signs, excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, glazed eyes, and confusion.
6. Keep blinds down during peak heat.
7. Offer ice cubes in water for playful lappers.

Rabbits
Rabbits don't handle heat well at all. Their primary method of cooling is via their ears, but it’s not very efficient. Over 23°C, rabbits are at serious risk.

In our rabbit care plans, we:

1. Provide continuous airflow, fans away from direct paths.
2. Move outdoor rabbits indoors during heatwaves
3. Keep hutches shaded and well-ventilated
4. Offer damp leafy greens for hydration and comfort
5. Watch for red ears, panting, and listlessness

If your pet shows any of the following signs, treat it as urgent.
