Tails With Heart Photography

Tails With Heart Photography Hey,

I’m Julia, self confessed crazy dog lady, and pet photographer. I’ve been photographing animals for as long as I can remember!

I’ve always loved taking pictures of my childhood pets and any new friends we happened to meet. But this passion really took off around 6 years ago, when a big beautiful blonde foster dog named Luna bounded into my life. At around that time I also stumbled across Shannon Johnstone’s hope-filled photographic project Landfill Dogs (which, if you’re a dog person, you have got to go and see), for me t

hat was it! It sparked a new life purpose - to photograph forgotten and overlooked rescue animals in such a way that somebody out there couldn’t help but feel a connection and would have to go and meet them. The incredible people at Carla Lane Animals in Need helped me no end in practicing and growing my craft, as I hung out with and photographed so many of their precious animals. They used to tell me that I should be doing this professionally and now I guess here I am! I’m deeply interested in people’s connection to their animals, my girl Luna changed my life, my relationship with myself, and lead me on a journey that began to heal both of our buried traumas. I genuinely wouldn’t be the person I am now if that nutty ball of fluff hadn’t turned my world upside down. I know I’m alone in this - as Thom Jones said “Dogs have a way of finding the people who really need them, and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had” – and so through both my client work and my ongoing photographic project: Who Rescued Who?, I aim to illustrate this impact animals have on our lives. I’m dying hear all about who your pets are and what they mean to you, and create beautiful artwork that illustrates just that so you can hang it proudly in your home and enjoy those memories for years to come. My focus is always on creating an experience you and your pets will enjoy, so your bond can shine through and my clients say things like “I’m blown away by your images, you have brought out the beautiful nature of my boy”, “The photoshoot was so chilled and fun”, “you have a special way with dogs – I can’t believe Freddie was so up for it!”

Incredibly honoured to have one of my photos of the legendary Millie Moo on the brand new animal ambulance for Carla Lane Animals in Need Liverpool!!! Just wow! I can't wait to see it!

Please check out their page, support them if you can and always There's the dog or cat for absolutely everybody waiting in a shelter somewhere - beautiful gentle souls just waiting for their chance, and there's the other poor souls losing their lives today because there's just no space in any of the rescues. ~ Till we meet again ~

Armin van Buuren
Dog knows when - 11/08/22

This week I had to say goodbye to my little boy after we discovered an inoperable tumour on his spleen. You'll all know I'm beyond heartbroken, Armin was the bravest, sweetest, most handsome and tenacious little poppet ever to grace the earth and he's been my absolute world for the last few years. I couldn't have been prouder of him; in the end he overcame every single one of his demons and had really come into his own. He'd become so relaxed and started to make little doggie and even human friends everywhere he went. He's been a joy in every single way and Ive no idea what I'll do without his gorgeous little face waking me up each morning and shouting at literally everything. On paper he made it to 15, although he was probably a little younger, and in suspicion and cynicism he was about 240 🤣 back when we first brought him home 5 1/2 years ago I didn't think we'd get so long with him, and yet now I feel short changed that we didn't get another 10 years, he was so sprightly and full of life right to the end.

So thank you Abhi, my little brave one, for putting your trust in me and teaching me the meaning of courage, loyalty and faith. We have been through thick and thin together and I feel honoured to have walked beside you on this part of the journey. Thank you for leading me home to my heart, I promise I'll keep a piece of you safe there till we meet again.

And say hi to Lu for me, I know she'll have found you xx

Love you always my goodest of good boys ###

Ever wondered your dog's origins?

I've always been super curious about Armin's breed make up, he came to us as a "shepherd-cross" but temperament-wise he's more in possession of that unquellable inner fire of a terrier type!
Of course, whatever he is will never change what he means to me, but understanding a dogs genes and the job they were bred to do can give us some insight into what really makes them tick, and I'll always go for a little extra edge on that front! So a while back I had him DNA tested with and now I feel insanely proud to be mom to an Eastern European Village Dog! Essentially that means he's a mutt of mutts! ..Literally to the extent that no man-made breeds can be detected in there for at least several generations back. Village dogs have been living loosely alongside humans all across the globe for thousands of years, largely doing their own thing and breeding without human influence.

I think that's pretty cool, although it really wasn't what I was expecting. It certainly explains his independent streak and enthusiasm for sentinel duty!

Anyway, here he is, wild-hearted and watchful, melting into woodland as ancient as perhaps some of his genes. And he's my lad, whatever's in him ❤️

A big thank you to Moss and Simon for being part of my Formby project! Our first dog when I was growing up was a flatcoat and it was so lovely to hang out with this distinguished lady who is matriarch of Simon's flatcoat pack and absolutely everything a flattie should be ❤️ I loved photographing these two together, you can totally feel the 13 year bond they have.

I'm still looking for one more GSD to take part in the project, then I can put it all together! Must be black and tan and able to get to Formby beach. Please get in touch if you think your dog may fit 🙂

A few from an absolutely gorgeous afternoon session I had with Nala and family quite a few weeks ago now (I'm so behind on social media right now 🙈). They were helping me with my current project and were a pleasure to hang out with - thank you so much guys! I still can't believe Nala is 11, she's so spritely! Her and her sister Pickles are both such lovely and also insanely well behaved dogs, I was a little bit in awe!

I've still got a couple of shoots for the project left to do, but we're getting there. Can't wait to put it all together!

~ADOPT ME~

This is a special appeal for my mate Ace here.
We took these images last autumn, and he's since had a home but sadly it didn't work out and he recently found himself back at the rescue again.

Ace is a fabulous lad, he's a big gorgeous goofball, fun-loving and he absolutely adores his people. His name totally does him justice, he's Ace and I'd 100% take him home if I could.

Unfortunately, Ace has not had much stability in his life and now struggles with separation anxiety so is looking for somebody who's home a lot of the time due to this. He also needs a pet and child free home.

If you think you could be the right person for Ace, please get in touch with and fill out the application form on their website.

Say hello to this gorgeous lot, all looking for their forever homes at

Stella (pics 1&2) is just 4 months old but has been passed about from home to home so she needs the next one to truly be FOREVER. She is a total sweetheart - gentle, dog friendly and independent. She'd love a home with another doggy pal.

Royal (pics 3&4) came in recently as a stray and is now getting the good meals and TLC she deserves. Shes fun loving and affectionate and wins the prize of "dog I nearly took home this time" she's just got a great little vibe about her.

Bruno (5&6) the big handsome mastiff cross is just a youngster and needs a strong capable owner. He's playful and loves people but needs a pet free home.

Arlo (7&8) is just fabulous. He's jam packed with bat-sh*t crazy lurcher silliness. Hes 11months old, super playful, daft and soft and loving, and does everything at about 100miles a minute then goes to sleep 🤣 he's a bit too boisterous for young kids, cats and small dogs.

I was at Carla Lane Animals In Need's spring fun dog show last weekend, taking some photos and handing out the on-the-spot-prizes! It was an awesome day, as they usually are. There was a great turn out, the weather was on our side, loads of amazing veggie/vegan food, cool stalls, and the classes and display team were all good fun :) I also got to meet a bunch of familiar doggie faces who've been rehomed from CLAIN and see how they're all getting on 🥰🥰

See you all at the summer one,

enjoy!

These guys were amazing to watch flying over the sands together. Oh how I've missed hanging out with collies! A big thank you to their humans for bringing these gorgeous boys forward to be part of my project which will be unveiled hopefully in a few weeks 🤞🤞 still much more work to be done on that. But in the meantime enjoy these handsome speed demons having the time of their lives out at Formby.

~ 5 years together ~

Today we have a happier milestone to celebrate, Armin's 5th Gotcha Day!! 🎉🎉

Unfortunately he managed to celebrate it by having some quite bizarre seizures earlier on 🥺😥 but he's also been a bit pampered and loved on by his momma, so it can't be too bad, eh?

Anyway, Happy Gotcha Day my little brave one, my handsome, firey, tenacious little scamp. Thanks for gracing my life with your nutty little ways, and for teaching me so many many things about so many many things ❤️ Here's to many more gotcha days together my little lad x
