Everyone meet the lovely Ollie!
I have been clipping Ollies legs regularly for around a year as he has CPL (chronic progressive lymphoedema) and as you can see his legs were very sore so for welfare reasons it's better for Ollie to have the hair removed from his legs so his skin can be treated correctly.
Ollie is an older boy who's had full feathers his whole life until the problem was recognised by his owner last year, unfortunately this means he's extremely averse to having his legs touched and now needs to be sedated by the vet for us to get the hair off, even sedated HD will sometimes try to fight back! Despite this as you can see from the pictures we've made excellent progress with his legs and he must be feeling much more comfortable now 🙂
Ollie is certainly not the easiest customer, and I'm definitely not his favourite person 🤦♀️😂 but this isn't about being popular, it's about his welfare and comfort and I'm glad I've been able to help him 🙂
Please remember to check your horses legs regularly, it's the only way to know what lurks under those feathers, if you suspect your horse has an issue do remember it may be kinder to take them off no matter how pretty they look with them on!
