Wow! What a fantastic night! 🧀🍷✨

Tonight we hosted our Cheese & Wine Quiz Night at the Vestry Hall in Cranbrook, and what a wonderful evening it was!

A huge thank you to all of our lovely clients who came along and to our amazing team who helped host the event. A great time was had by all, with our first and second place teams taking home winning rosettes!

It was such a fun way to enjoy an evening of interactive, educational entertainment — with plenty of laughter along the way!

We’re also delighted to share that our raffle raised a fabulous £185 for Hospice in the Weald 💛. They rely on support to continue providing their incredible care for people and families in need across our community. Hospice in the Weald

Thank you again to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success.

**TICKETS END TONIGHT AT 5.30pm! ** We have a few spaces left if you want to join us for a fun quiz night!

The ticket includes cheese and wine at the tables! A charity raffle with great prizes.

The raffle is in aid of Hospice in the Weald - they urgently need to raise £8-9 million annually to continue providing care at their sites in Pembury, Kent, and Five Ashes, East Sussex.

It is a horse related, fun quiz, but with an educational element when we give out the answers. A more interactive way for passing on information whilst also giving you the opportunity to meet and chat to our team.

We still have a few spaces left, so whether you are coming alone, with a couple of friends or part of a larger group - we would love to see you there and we will make up teams for the smaller numbers.

Thank you to our lovely client for delivering these wonderful gifts to our vet Catarina (Cat) and our team who who have been helping her through a tough time with her horse.

We worked really hard to provide the best service we can, and it really does make our day when we see how much it makes a difference to people when they are going through difficult times.

Thanks to Tina for this brilliant photo of Gonzo the turkey meeting Gonzo the vet. One of them spends their day treating horses… the other just wanders around causing chaos

We are braving the heat with our caravan and the children this weekend. We have noticed a lot of horses and their foals laying in the sun directly, even when there is shade nearby.

It just goes to show there’s ’nowt so q***r as horses!’ (Except maybe their owners)… says Reuben (AKA croc Dundee in his hat!)

With temperatures soaring, we wanted to share some simple tips to help keep your horses comfortable and safe in the heat ☀️

🔆 Horses are usually happy living out, provided they have access to adequate shelter such as large trees or field shelters. Encouraging them into shaded areas with hay or their usual feed can also help. If you only have a field with little or no shelter, check your horse regularly and offer water frequently where possible, as some horses may become too hot to even walk to the trough.

🔆 If your horse seems too hot or uncomfortable, you can hose them down with tepid or cold water several times a day. Always let the hose run first to clear any water that may have become hot in the pipe. Avoid scraping the water off afterwards — evaporation is what helps cool them down, so keep hosing if needed.

🔆 Consider using fly rugs, ideally white or light-coloured, to reflect heat and help protect against flies.

🔆 Use fly spray when horses are out in the heat, as flies tend to be particularly active during warmer weather.

🔆 If your horse has a particularly thick coat, including those with Cushings, consider clipping them during the summer months to help keep them cool. Pink-skinned horses may then need a lightweight fly rug to help prevent sunburn.

🔆 Soaked hay and sloppy feeds can help encourage water intake and prevent dehydration (where appropriate and not for those on a laminitic weight-management programme).

🔆 Avoid riding during the hottest parts of the day whenever possible. Either ride very early, keep work light, or opt for a gentle hack. A few easier days won’t do any harm, but strenuous exercise in extreme heat certainly can.

🔆 Be mindful of stabling conditions. Some wooden stables can become extremely hot in direct sunlight — a good test is to stand inside yourself and see how it feels. If your horse is normally stabled overnight and turned out during the day, it may be worth reversing turnout times to avoid peak temperatures and the worst of the flies.

🔆 Take extra care when travelling horses in hot weather. Trailers and lorries can become dangerously hot very quickly, especially when stationary in traffic. If travel is essential, aim to travel very early in the morning or later in the evening where possible.

If your horse seems unusually lethargic, distressed, or loses interest in eating, please contact your vet.

Last Friday one of those reminders that emergency response in equine practice takes teamwork, patience, and staying calm under pressure.

We were called out to assist with a completely unhandled native pony that roams freely over 400 acres of beautiful National Trust land after he was found stuck in a water-filled ditch. These herds truly live the best life — free-roaming, natural, and wild.

The keepers had already contacted Animal Rescue, so we coordinated on site and prepared for a safe recovery plan. Once rescue crews were in position, our vet Goncalo safely administered sedation to allow the pony to be carefully craned from the ditch with minimal stress and risk of injury.

The best outcome possible: he was successfully recovered and walked away sound.

Huge thanks to the carers and Animal Rescue team for the coordinated effort. Situations like these are exactly why rapid response, teamwork, and experienced emergency care matter. Our team provide our very own 24/7 emergency service.

✨ A very special arrival! ✨

Huge congratulations to our client, Georgina on the safe arrival of beautiful little Ronald 🐴💙

Ronald, a lovely c**t out of Petra, a 9-year-old Connemara mare, made his appearance at 1:30am on Wednesday morning after 328 days — and what an entrance it was!

While the foaling itself went smoothly, Petra experienced a retained placenta afterwards, so we were called in to help. Thankfully, after a little time and care, we were able to resolve everything successfully, and both mum and foal are now doing incredibly well.

And in true mischievous foal fashion… Ronald decided that at just 6 hours old he was already ready for adventure and managed to escape through the fence!

We wish Georgina, Petra, and little Ronald all the very best for the weeks ahead.
