Arkadian Bolognese

Arkadian Bolognese This page started in 2013 with our 1st Bolognese, Bella. We became addicted to the breed, and to showing, so the Arkadian kennel affix was born.

We now have 11 Bolognese: Bella, Mia , Cara, Max, Amy, Enzo, Holly, Dino, Finn, Gina & Vito. Bolognese originate from Italy and are a member of the Bichon (meaning little white dog) family which includes Maltese, Bichon Frise, Havanese, Coton de Tulear & Lowchen. They are a small friendly and sometimes reserved breed known for their beautiful flocked white coats and adorable personalities. As a ra

re toy breed and companion dog they love to be included in all aspects of family life and make great pets. At Arkadian we have 4 girls and 3 boys. Bella is normally very quiet and chilled out until she sees a cat. She loves chasing the pigeons and doves out of the garden. She is so well behaved that we wanted another one, so she had puppies, we kept 2 and it grew from there. Cara, looks like a smaller version of her mother Bella, she doesn’t like certain sounds (fireworks, bin lorries, etc) and sometimes gets quite stressed by them. Push her enough though and she will fight her corner. Max, Cara's litter brother, gets excitable when he sees other dogs and just wants to play. Annoyingly, he uses his weight to push the girls out of the way when he wants attention - typical boy! Amy is very sociable, excitable and can jump very high. She loves to raid the waste bins for bits of paper or tissue to chew up and leave around the house. She also steals all the toys and stock piles them. Enzo is showman of the family. He is as cute as a button and loves being in the showring. Holly is a sweet little girl with a gentle nature. She loves to play with Enzo and Dino. She can be a bit of an escape artist at times. Dino is the son of Amy and Enzo. He shares their excitable nature and loves strutting his stuff in the showring. Mark & Diane Whateley

Yesterday was, as we wished, a lot cooler than over the previous few days: There was a lovely breeze and we were set up in the shade. We had entered 6 dogs under judge Steve Bennett (Gheluvelt) so it was a busy show for us. It was also great to see a couple of exhibitors that don’t show as much nowadays.

All 6 dogs did extremely well….

The show season is hotting up (literally and figuratively). On the 17th May we were up in Scotland for the SKC Double Championship shows (where Enzo celebrated his 5th Birthday) then at Bath Championship on the 22nd May before heading to Southern Counties Championship ready for Friday's show. It is very hot and sunny and the dogs are all keeping in the shade. Hopefully, it will be slightly cooler on Friday for the show where we have 6 dogs entered. Results for the shows we've done already are as follows:

Happy 5th Birthday to our little superstar Enzo (Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian). He has spent the day travelling home from Edinburgh where he won Reserve Best Dog at SKC All Breed Championship Show yesterday (more on SKC to follow in another post). The first two pictures show that he wanted to get involved in the driving! He has found time for some treats and fuss though and tonight gets a special birthday meal and even more tummy tickles.

It only seems like yesterday when we first fell in love with this little boy from a photograph on Facebook. We had admired his Sire (Lafford Hero) in the ring and was there in 2020 when he got BOB at Crufts. In 2022 Enzo won Best Puppy at Crufts and in 2025 went on to get BOB at Crufts and won the British Bolognese Club Dog of the Year competition. Enzo has sired three litters, his eldest son Dino (Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari) won Best Puppy at Crufts & Our Dogs Top Bolognese Puppy in 2024.

It seems as if we only get time for a monthly update recently. Since our last one we have been to Chippenham Open, South Eastern Counties Open, West of England Ladies Kennel Society (WELKS) Championship and Spire Toy Dog.

Highlights include Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian (Amy) getting Best Veteran at WELKS under Gaynor Morris. At the same show we were overjoyed when our little princess Arkadian LaFerrari (Gina) won Reserve Best Bitch despite being less than 7 months old. Her Dad, Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian (Enzo), won Reserve Best of Breed at South Eastern Counties and Spire shows. Arkadian Ferrari Vittorio (Vito) is Gina’s litter brother, he wasn’t shown at WELKS but did extremely well in beating his sister in the Open shows in both breed classes and stakes.

In between showing we have visited several National Trust properties where the dogs (& humans) have enjoyed long picturesque walks.

Arkadian had a lovely but tiring weekend. On Saturday we were at UKToy Dog where, out of 6 dogs we entered under judge Irene McManus, 3 of them won 1st in their class including our 6 month old Arkadian LaFerarri (Gina) who got Best Puppy Bitch. We were delighted when Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian (Amy) went on to win her first Best Veteran in Breed. At the end of the day we were presented with the British Bolognese Club Shield for Dog of the Year 2025 won by Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian (Enzo). 2025 was an amazing year for him as he had also won BOB at Crufts.

On Sunday we were at Blackpool and Fylde Toy Dog under Jane Pearman where 6 month old Gina (2nd) and brother Vito (3rd) got more ring practice and Enzo received great feedback from the judge. Most importantly we took plenty of time out to chat with friends old and new.

A great achievement by our little star Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian.

Arkadian LaFerrari (Gina) and her brother Arkadian Vittorio (Vito) had a very busy weekend. On Sunday they celebrated their 6 month birthday by taking part in their first ever show under judge Caroline Gurtner. There were no puppy classes at Bridgwater & District so they were entered in Post Graduate where they exceeded our expectations by coming 2nd (Gina) and 3rd (Vito). Gina was also called back into the ring to challenge for Reserve Best of Breed and our stubborn little Vito walked without plonking his bum down once 🥰. On Monday we all had a day out at Newark NT where Gina took exception to a carved wooden pig 🤣.

Yesterday (Monday 9th March) was Bella’s 13th Birthday. She celebrated by having some beef and curling up in her favourite place behind a chair. Birthday wishes are sent to her brother Teddy and two sisters with extra special thoughts for brother Boswell celebrating another heavenly birthday.
