🐾 Forever Friday Hamster Update! 🐾

We thought we would update you all with Auguste who is still loving life as one of Fable’s forever hamsters 🩷

Getting pictures and videos of Auguste is often sparse as, due to his neurological condition, he can be a bit of a ghost hamster! The welfare of our hamsters is also our utmost priority, so we will never take him out for content if this is going to cause unnecessary stress.

Nevertheless, Auguste is thriving in his home with minimal flare ups. He continues to enjoy foraging and burrowing, and has settled beautifully into his regular routine with his foster family.

Some hamsters need a forever home with Fable's.

Our Forever Hamsters stay in rescue care when health, welfare or behavioural needs mean rehoming isn’t right for them. Sponsorships help us provide their ongoing care, from as little as £3 a month.

Please give a warm welcome to Velvet, a 12-month-old hamster who has recently joined Fable’s in Reading!

Velvet is currently undergoing veterinary investigations for ongoing health concerns, and due to her medical needs, we've made the decision to give her Forever Hamster status.

This means Velvet will remain in Fable’s care, with her ongoing veterinary treatment, monitoring and any additional support she needs provided for throughout her life.

We're also delighted to welcome our wonderful new volunteer, Daniella, who will be fostering Velvet and making sure she has everything she needs to live a happy, comfortable and thoroughly spoiled life! ❤️

While Velvet's medical investigations are ongoing, we'll continue working with her vets to make sure she receives the best possible care, and we'll share updates as we learn more.

💚 Could you help support Velvet?

Our Forever Hamsters often need additional veterinary appointments, medication and ongoing care, all of which are funded through donations and sponsorships.

If you're able to make a donation or sponsor one of our Forever Hamsters, we'd be incredibly grateful. Your support allows us to provide care for hamsters like Velvet, no matter what their medical needs may be.

For now, Velvet can concentrate on settling into her foster home, getting comfortable and enjoying all the love and attention Daniella has to offer!

A Little Health Update on Garl Glittergold! Garl has been keeping us on our toes recently, although thankfully, he’s still very much his usual little self! ❤️

Over the past few weeks, Garl has experienced a slow but steady decline in weight despite having a healthy appetite. While the changes have been subtle, they’ve been consistent enough to warrant further investigation.

Garl has now been seen by a vet, and we’re awaiting his initial test results. In the meantime, he’s being closely monitored and receiving supplementary food to help support his weight.

Thankfully, Garl is doing well in himself! He’s still eating enthusiastically and enjoying his usual hamster activities. We’re hoping he’s simply a busy little boy with some picky eating habits, but we want to rule out any underlying health concerns.

⚖️ This is why regularly weighing your hamsters is so important!

Hamsters are excellent at hiding illness, and gradual weight loss can be difficult to notice. Regular weight records help identify subtle changes before more obvious symptoms appear.

For now, Garl’s adoption availability is on hold until we’ve completed his investigations and made sure he’s back in tip-top shape. ❤️

💚 Could you help support Garl?

Veterinary appointments, testing and additional care come at a cost. If you’re able to donate towards Garl’s investigations and ongoing care, we’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps us provide the care our hamsters need.

If donating isn’t possible, sharing his update helps too!

For now, Garl will continue enjoying his snacks while we wait for some answers. Hopefully, he’s simply a tiny food critic with a very busy schedule! 😂
