โ˜€๏ธ It's not just dogs and cats that feel the heat - rabbits and guinea pigs can struggle in hot weather too.

Heatstroke can become life-threatening very quickly, so a few simple changes can make a huge difference during warmer days.
๐Ÿ‡ Make sure fresh water is always available
๐ŸนKeep hutches and enclosures in shaded, well-ventilated areas
๐Ÿฐ Use cooling mats, frozen water bottles wrapped in towels, or ceramic tiles for pets to lie against
๐Ÿน Offer water-rich vegetables as part of their diet
๐Ÿฐ Avoid handling during the hottest parts of the day
๐Ÿน Bring pets indoors if temperatures become excessive

โš ๏ธ Watch for signs of heat stress, including: Heavy breathing, lethargy, drooling, weakness, or loss of appetite.

Remember โ€” hutches placed in direct sunlight can become dangerously hot very quickly.

Temperatures Are Rising This Weekend

With warmer weather on the way itโ€™s important to remember that dogs can struggle in the heat much more quickly than we do.
A few simple steps can make a big difference:
๐Ÿ’ง Make sure fresh water is always available to drink, but somewhere to splash is also welcomed
๐ŸŒณ Walk during cooler parts of the day
๐Ÿš— Never leave dogs in cars โ€” even for a few minutes
๐ŸงŠ Provide cool resting areas and shade
๐Ÿ• Avoid hot pavements that can burn paws
๐ŸŽพ Swap high-energy exercise for calmer enrichment activities

Some dogs may be more vulnerable in hot weather, including:
๐Ÿพ Flat-faced breeds
๐Ÿพ Elderly dogs
๐Ÿพ Puppies
๐Ÿพ Dogs with underlying health conditions

โš ๏ธ Watch for signs of heatstroke, including: Heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, confusion, or collapse.

If youโ€™re concerned, contact your vet immediately.

Enjoy the sunshine safely and help keep dogs comfortable as temperatures rise this weekend

๐Ÿพ Itโ€™s National Rescue Dog Day ๐Ÿพ

Today is all about celebrating the incredible rescue dogs who have found loving homes โ€” and the amazing rescue organisations working tirelessly behind the scenes to give them a second chance. ๐Ÿ’œ

From rehabilitation and veterinary care to training, fostering, and rehoming, rescue centres do so much to support dogs in need.

So today, we want to shine a light on them -
๐Ÿถ Tag your local rescue organisation in the comments to give them a shoutout and raise awareness. We'll start with the place where Waffles journey began.

๐Ÿ’œ Help us celebrate the work they do every single day
