The temperature is set to climb this week, so it is here’s a quick reminder to share with pet owners.

Heat affects dogs and cats faster than many people realise, and the signs of trouble can appear quickly. If you are walking, boarding, grooming or caring for dogs over the coming days, a few small adjustments make a real difference.

🐾 Walk early or late, when pavements and ground are cooler. The five-second test helps - if it is too hot for the back of your hand, it is too hot for paws.

🐾 Always have fresh water available, including somewhere to paddle if possible.

🐾 Watch for the early signs of overheating - heavy panting, drooling, lethargy or unsteadiness. Act quickly if you spot them.

🐾 Never leave a dog in a parked car or warm vehicle, even for a moment.

🐾 Give dogs shade and rest, including cooling mats or damp towels to lay on.

Hot weather is one of those times when knowing the signs early really matters.

⭐⭐⭐Sector Update⭐⭐⭐

From today, every business that holds personal data has to have a proper way of handling data protection complaints. This comes in under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and it applies to all organisations.

This means clients are now expected to come to you first with a data protection concern, before going to the ICO, so you need a simple complaints process in place and ready.

In practice that means a clear, plain-English line in your privacy notice telling people how to raise a concern, an easy way for them to do it, and an acknowledgement of any complaint within 30 days.
